mouse-over for wacky propaganda stories! (the only thing on the entire thing that doesn't get a story is Satan -- I get we presumably know).

I'm greatly amused (and more than a little angry) over the blurb about the constitution. "Insipred by God" Yeah. Sure. That's why there's specifically a provision to keep God OUT of Government...

Shh. Your logic interferes with their crazy; they don't like that!

That's pretty wacky all right!

I particularly like the anonymous Immigrant, raising his hand in shock at glowing radioactive Jesus. And how Martin Luther King doesn't actually appear, but is represented by a random black Marine.

I'll see you that and raise you this (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/05/SvA_full.png/600px-SvA_full.png).

(I'm embarrassed to admit that I would probably pay money for a comic featuring Muhammad Ali duking it out with Jesus.)

The list of symbolism (for those who don't get enough from the mouseover text) explains that the author couldn't use King's image directly for copyright reasons.

(I have heard elsewhere that King's heirs have been highly protective of any IP that might conceivably be associated with his name and image, so I actually find this credible.)

Of course then the wacky artist describes King as a "figure head of the Civil Rights Movement" and goes downhill from there.

Ahh, didn't see that. I can buy that. In any case, it's almost beside the point, given the general lunacy.

Really? Then I guess they approved that episode of The Boondocks where MLK appeared. The episode was a "What if..." he survived his shooting and was in a coma until about 2000.

Well, that probably falls under the fair-use parody exemption.

Also, there are plenty of artists who would cave in to a legally dubious lawsuit threat, but I don't think Aaron McGruder is one of them.

So, umm, there's a black Civil War soldier (behind and ten feet away from the white Civil War Union soldier) who represents the black Civil War soldiers who "willingly fought for their freedom in whatever capacity they were asked to perform", a contemporary black soldier with "King" on his name tag, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, and a black college student.

And one "immigrant" who might be Asian and seems to be identified as "not Christian". And Sequoia. And, umm,...doesn't that lawyer (who "could also stand for Wall Street or the Banking System") look Jewish?

Indeed, this painting is rich in symbolism. I hope it's symbolic of how Republicans are going to lose a shitload of elections over the next fifty years.

So the Immigrant is shocked that Christ and the Constitution are connected, and then it's added in that we live in a country where we're free to worship as we choose? Man, the unstated conclusion to that is so glaringly obvious it may as well be written in: "But the right choice is Christ."

Only figures without flavor text are the "Business Woman" and "Handicap Child"--ran out of propaganda or was worried about shooting his foot?

I'm a little pissed off there are no evil Jew money counters or Satan worshiping queers. I want to be represented in bat shit crazy art! Also, why does Satan not have a story? I demand a passage of Milton at least!

I bet the queers aren't there because he didn't know how to portray them in a G-rated way, since we are having Teh ButtSex AT ALL TIMES.

O ye of little faith! The lawyer on the bottom right is the evil Jew money counter, and the "Hollywood" guy behind and above him is the Satan-worshipping queer.

Yeah but that's their back store after the fact. This is Dumbledore being gay all over again! Why does it have to be mentioned after, and not in the actual book/movie/crazy ass painting?

America is a strange and magical nation.

I don't think I'm qualified to speak up on this...painting...but my god, not only is the art terrible, really it's awful, the Christian Right doesn't actually know why the Constitution was written, do they?! The Republicans really shot themselves in the foot by centralising those whack-jobs.
