To my rather intensely pleased surprise Girl Number 9 is quite entirely awesome.

Good production values (I will spare you my nits about a lighting choice and one camera angle in one shot that I thought was cliched and unnecessary), nice acting (this, this is what we call a Q Rating; you can look like shit, but if you have the Q Rating magic I'll like your character and take his side anyway) and really fantastic establishing characters banter -- that's always been something James Moran does well, and the tight format forces him to reign it in to the bare minimum of useful and it makes it all the snappier for it.

So hey! Nice stuff.

Also, fandom: I'm expecting fanfiction like, five minutes ago. Wake up, people!

I love GDL being all authoritative in a very self-assured non-by-proxy way.
And his comment on the beard was great!

I'm really looking forward to the rest of it; it's very hard to raise the tension in such a short amount of time, but it's very gripping.

I believe it's the facial hair, plus the shlumpy clothes and hair on his head.

Those factors very much age him... not to mention the lighting! The girl in the video looked about 20 until she opened her mouth and I realised she was a child.

GDL is twenty eight... it's a flexible age on screen (sorta). In addition to the context of his character.

Nope. I have really young skin and figure, so I'm always either playing a 25-year old or really aged up to be playing someone who is 50 or older. I've never played anyone in their 30s ever.
