[livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna got married, went on her honeymoon and then got stranded in Frankfurt. It's a long, complicated clusterfuck of a story, but now she and her spouse need help. [livejournal.com profile] reannon sums up with links and info well here: http://reannon.livejournal.com/1785169.html

I am truly astonished that Expedia told them they didn't need visas. AFAICR, Russia hasn't actually updated their tourism rules since the Berlin Wall fell: basically, everybody needs visas.

I was similarly astonished and when I first heard the story I was like "well did you all check" because I always check no matter where I am going. I mean shit, I needed a visa for Australia! What a mess.

Also, why do terrible things always happen to people I know in the fucking Frankfurt airport. It's ALWAYS that airport.

I once spent three days on the military side of Frankfurt airport waiting to go to Iraq. Long weird story. Anyway, as a result, I too have negative and surreal associations with that place.

Yes, but for cruise ships at least, you can buy them upon landing, so it's lately seemed like a formality.
