  • [livejournal.com profile] ladysisyphus is reading evangelical Protestant sex manuals so you don't have to. Is this where fandom got its obsession with the simultaneous orgasm? That's what I want to know. (I jest people, I jest!)

  • One of the neighborhood garden cats died; it was hit by a car. We are all sad.

  • Hip-hop about Alexander Hamilton in the voice of Aaron Burr. Um, it's actually more awesome than bizarre, which is saying something, because it's pretty bizarre. Found through [livejournal.com profile] kalichan who grew up with the guy (the dude performing, not Alexander Hamilton or Aaron Burr, because that would be weird).

  • Patty has alerted me to Sarkozy Facebook shenanigans.

  • She also sent me a link to the New York Times explaning current unemployment rates. If people need an illustration to understand the idea of 1 in 10, our problems are more epic than I can possibly imagine. After that, the charts actually attempt to tell us something we don't know.

  • We're talking about Falco on Twitter.

  • Tomorrow the utter clusterfuck of New York State politics meets the ongoing horror of the struggle for equal marriage rights. Ugh.

  • Also, gay couple kicked out of cab.

I thought simultaneous orgasm fascination came from DH Lawrence?

    Oh, no. Poor kitty.

It seems like there's a bull market for evangelical Christian sex manuals. That one doesn't sound as entertaining as one my friend Anne was chortling at online, which went out of its way to reassure Christian couples that D/S and anal were just fine as long as they didn't transgress Christian sex roles. (We couldn't decide it it was a parody or not.)

actually, there is a sub-culture of Christian D/s that is male top, female sub that is based on biblical interpretation. It's not parody.

The roles, as you might imagine, are fixed and rigid.

I have no doubt that there is, and America has become so irony-deficient that the difference between serious and satire is very, very hazy.

Speaking as a sometime sex educator and more oftentime erotica editor, the obsession with simultaneous orgasm is a widespread and deep-seated cultural obsession that I'm pretty sure is merely reflected in evangelical Protestant sex manuals and fandom simultaneously (among many, many other venues).

Yeah, that one has been around for at least 50 years, and probably longer, usually with uneasy undertones about how women should learn to be magically satisfied, rather than expecting their partners to do anything helpful in that direction.

I have an extremely awesome no-longer-secret cousin.

yeah, didn't we do 1 in 10 in elementary school? That said, when we get into reminding folks that the "unemployment" rate is only current job seekers, but not ones who don't get unemployment, and all the folks who have stopped looking or been forced to part-time aren't even mentioned... it's so much worse. And I am pretty certain their "discouraged and other" rate is under-reported as heck.

    FALCO IS FUCKING AWESOME!!!

Seriously, I have a deep and everlasting love for him, because of my mother, who quite literally owns every single Falco song and remix and re-release there ever was. I grew up on him, and always get nine kinds of happy when people have actually heard his stuff. (Or watched his music videos! He had trippy music videos, and I'm pretty sure there are still ones I haven't seen because I was too young for them at the time ("Naked", especially))

I remember making my own video for Rock Me Amadeus as a humanities project. It was made using a videodisc of an art museum, and frame by frame scanning, and people walking backwards. It was also one of the few songs my father and I could agree on.

Not terribly surprised about the taxi story. When leaving the recent Click & Drag reunion I watched cab drivers refuse to stop for one person ( who admittedly was more than a tad drunk and trying to walk in heels ) and the usual refusals to go to Brooklyn. As for taxi antics, I've had more than my share but was never tossed from the cab. Remember that story?

As far as the simultaneous orgasm goes, after early experimentation ( 1988, 1990 ) I came to the conclusion that the simultaneous orgasm is like Santa delivering gifts to every girl and boy on the planet overnight, or the Easter bunny delivering candy everywhere Easter morning : A wonderful idea, but logistically unlikely and not without seriously violating several laws of physics.

'Secular therapists say a wife should be able to respond, "Sorry, but I'm just not up to it tonight." My own opinion as a Christian wife is that we can depend on the Lord to give us the strength and ability to be as warm and responsive as our husband's desire, no matter how tired we are.'

Okay, according to far right Christians, not only are we not allowed to decided if we want to be pregnant or not, but we don't have the right to say "no" to sex?
