  • 21-year-old raises money for her own funeral.

  • The widow penalty has been eliminated. Basically, those applying for US residency that have their spouses die before the marriage has lasted for two years can still apply now.

  • The remaining 24 residents of a Japanese town have decided to let the town die with them.

  • Mexico City legalizes gay marriage and adoption by same-sex couples.

  • Anti-trans crap is going on in Minnesota and it's the governor's fault. He's going to run for president in 2012. via [livejournal.com profile] soundingsea

  • Rwanda refutes claims it is planning to criminalize homosexuality.

  • Price Edward's Island updates their legal language to conform with the 2006 legalization of sam-sex marriage in Canada. via [livejournal.com profile] brigidsblest

  • The end of the Boys Choir of Harlem.

  • Because some of you care: You can now order Girl Number 9 on DVD.

  • IMPORTANT YULETIDE PINCH HIT NOTICE.

  • I can't really believe I'm reporting on this, but Duane Reade's shitty random store brand now sells fudge that's pretty damn good and gluten-free (it does contain glucose the source of which I don't know and that may be at risk of gluten-contamination if that source is wheat-related).

  • [livejournal.com profile] cruentum, I've written a page and a half of your story request so far.

  • We had the money for none of it but this is the New York in which I grew up. Check out the snuff box on slide 6. I will never stop being grateful for living in the hidden world.

  • If you happen to care: THERE IS DESCENSUS IN THE COMMENTS.

Or, you know, one of his horrible Muggle artifacts that he totally pretends he doesn't have.

(He is ALWAYS getting busted on that shit... if it's not muggle artifacts, it's dark arts shit later).

Yep! If it's wrong, he's got it.

Severus: This is why you spend time with me, isn't it?
    Lucius: Mm-hmm.
    Severus: I hate you.
Lucius: No, you don't. Come, let me show you my new snuff box. Louis-Phillipe, 19th century.
    Severus: I really hate you.
Lucius: Don't worry! I've had it cleaned, of course.

I think I just strained something laughing.

    Lucius: *laughs*
Severus: Don't think I didn't notice how you didn't answer me.
Bellatrix: Why clean when you can replace? What is this new monstrosity you've come up with, Lucius? Is it actually made of leather?
Lucius: It's the very latest thing.
Severus: It's not made from Muggles, is it?

You see, this is why I want to scream when people say that stuff that depicts hate in the world subscribe to said hate (i.e., the "RTD is homophobic" argument), because if that's true, it says really, TERRIBLE things about us.

    Your line was better. *laughs*

You're right, by that standard, we're actually evil. ARGH.

This conversation, however, has made my day. They haven't come out to play in forever.

Lucius: Of course they're not made of cows. Cows are stupid.

    Narcissa: What's going on?
Rodolphus: (not looking up) Something about carpets. Snuffboxes?
Narcissa: Yes, they are really ugly, aren't they? Don't worry, Severus, I'm sure they'll be gone by the next time you come over.
    Severus: *howls with incoherent rage*

Fortunately, nothing anti-trans has actually happened. It's just our stupid presidential-hopeful gov talking out of his ass as usual, this time saying he wished trans and cross-dressing individuals didn't have all the rights he voted for in the 90s. I find it infuriating that he actually cares what third-grade teachers wear to class! Does he really think that's what's wrong with education today... men in dresses and women in suits???

In my book, talk, even if it doesn't have legislative impact, is action, because talk does have safety and quality of life impact.

Indeed. Talk is speech-crime that might insight 'thought-crime' and more speech crime and even action-crime.

Hey, did you make it to this sale? I dropped in on Sunday. The apartment is as wonderful as the article says, though the writer failed to mention that the spiral marble staircase is terrifying — the treads are wider on alternate sides, so you have to make sure you start off on the right foot, literally.

    Hello!

I mostly just lurk here, but I know you are going to Cardiff soon, right? And you were looking for men's dress shoes in a small size. I've just returned from Cardiff, and saw some at the 'New Look' store in St. David's Mall 2. Just thought you should know!

    Oh!

    [livejournal.com profile] descensus_hp

It's Kali and I's first collaboration. Like IHNIIHBT it's a series of linked stories, so everything that's posted is self-contained, but part of a broad universe. It's rougher (especially the first one or two) than IHNIIHBT, since we were just learning to do this. It's also crazily out of order as we just wrote shit and assigned it dates. There's also weird artifacts (including a dating and marriage manual for pureblood girls). It's really rather appalling, but it could keep you busy a long long time. It starts when Severus and Narcissa and all those folks are teenagers.

The profile page explains how to navigate it: http://community.livejournal.com/descensus_hp/profile

So... we can all marry Samwise in PEI now? Well that's good, I'm glad he -- and PEI -- is so generous.

*Pause* There's a Shire in Prince Edward Island?
