old news, but

In emailing with my fellow Gally co-conspirators about the particular hilarity that pretty much any Lady Gaga song when paired with the idea of cosplay in LA creates, I was once again remained of the Neutraface thing, which I've been assured is funny even if you're not a typeface geek. So there ya go, if you're the one person on the Internet who hasn't seen it yet.

LOL, you beat me to it.

(I may post anyway.)

Ok, now that is hot.

I barely know who Lady Gaga even is, but that's a crazy video. I love it.

The original is called Pokerface and will come up all over Youtube with a little bit of effort. It's all very trashy and performative and sorta like someone shoved Ziggy Stardust in a blender with Paris Hilton.

vondow asked me yesterday if Lady Gaga is the current generations Madonna. I like your description much better.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-12-28 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
People want to say that because she's a usually blond woman, but Madonna never tried to be this alien or fucked with gender norms or was quite this much of a narrative package. She was just really talented and had one name.

Beyond all that is why he thought I would have a clue, of course.

You're tapped into what the kids are into these days?

*laugh*

I barely know your spouse, but I think he suspects that your wild and crazy past was faaaaaar more wild and crazy than it was. Although again, that doesn't explain expecting you to be in the know about LG either.

I may teach 6 and 7th graders, but really, my cool factor is limited to bringing in a DJ so they have no excuse not to dance at parties and answering any question I'm not told not to by the lawyers, i.e. relating to sex ed in anyway. Or, well, I guess I used the bell to dodge a question about my possible college drug use this month.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-12-28 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Hehehehehe. Dude, I seem to recall your involvement in a bed collapse. Fuck the possible college drug use.

[identity profile] graene.livejournal.com 2009-12-28 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, there was a specific lawsuit in NC regarding sex ed without specific parental permission - for a basic hygiene class. I don't go near it now. So bloody glad ACLU won the lawsuit and by start of next school year all of NC is supposed to be teaching comprehensive, medically accurate sex ed again.

That memory always involves the rippling reflections of light off the pool in ways that make me think present lighting is wrong.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-12-28 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
I can't believe I had a house with a pool ... down the block from a toxic waste site.

And man.. I can't even touch the first half of the comment (re: sex ed). I'll jsut get angry.

[identity profile] graene.livejournal.com 2009-12-28 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
True, I should probably call the ACLU, directly or via religious school's lawyer, and find out if it's ok to start answering those questions about 'kosher' contraceptives again.

Can I just say how much I loved that I could answer those questions quoting Torah despite totally not paying attention to religious school as a kid or being at all observant?

People may also be picking up on the common genetic heritage between the two. Even under all the blond and performance art Lady Gaga pegged as a particular part of my blood family to me.

But thank you for mentioning the Bowie, since that is deliberate on her part from what I'd read. I just wish the House of Gaga would be more open and vocal about their references and work. Do they MEAN to invoke yaruban ifa based religion trance possession regalia? They are in LA. It is possible. It is also a really simple visual. But I don't know. And it drives me NUTS!

I've recently accepted the fact that I freakin' love Lady Gaga! I got her two albums yesterday and have been listening to them non-stop.

She reminds me a bit of the Scissor Sisters, but only as much as it feels like I'm listening to club music in my own home - one of my friends said that if that's what I consider club music it's been a looooong time since I wasn't in a gay bar!

Reading your thread above in discussing her, I agree with you description - Ziggy Stardust + Paris Hilton! Though in "Bad Romance" she does indeed reference Madonna's "Vogue" (possibly her best song ever!).

I know I've already said this, but I'm saying it again: I commend the ginger one for his commitment to archaic facial hair. Somebody get that man a proper hat and suit. And a walking cane. Criminy.

This is a thing of beauty, and fortunately I do have some friends who are hardcore typeface geeks. I thank you on their behalf for sharing. :)
