Buffy 4.16 - "Who Are You?"

Angel 1.18 - "Five by Five"

- So, we know Willow and Tara are banging. Do they know they are banging? And seriously, an actual sex scene would have been less graphic. Did people go crazy when that was aired?

- Faith may annoy me, but Slayer battles ROCK. Love those fight scenes.

- Does Wesley not have an apartment? Is that why he's sleeping on the office couch? I've been resisting the urge to be all IANTO WAS BASED ON WESLEY, but I'm starting to be all IANTO WAS BASED ON WESLEY. I'm half joking. But only half!

- Holy fuck, that torture scene was unpleasant. Really, really unpleasant. And you know, awesome for that. Because torture scenes annoy me on TV a lot because I'm not buying it, it's not effective, and these people usually don't even know how to tie a gag. Well I bought that, and I was impressed with it in pretty much every way.

- Wesley! When Wesley punches Faith. When he tells her she's _never_ going to hear him cry. God fucking dammit, how awesome is he?

- Also, broken broken broken.

- But not as broken as Faith! Cripes. Her issues don't hit me where I live, but I have to keep double-checking to make sure and that's no fun either.

- Dennis was protecting Cordy!

I remember reading the Buffy usenet group when this season first aired. By ep 12 or 13 there was initially some talk about them maybe being involved. After another ep or 2, most people had decided that they were, except for this one guy who claimed it was all just subtext and foolish slashers who were wrong to believe that Whedon would ever have actual queer content. He started shutting up around this ep.

IANTO WAS BASED ON WESLEY

Haha, this is so funny. A few weeks ago, I posted a Jack/Wesley crossover fic, and I hadn't even consciously thought of any parallels between Ianto and Wes while writing it -- but every since then, I've seen a number of people bringing them up!

Everything in Torchwood is lifted from Joss Whedon. My proof: Let me show you it.

(I made that ages ago. Imagine there's a Wesley shot in there, too.)

Me, in a Fragments reaction post: They're like a happier Wesley and Angel, in a way. Well, a bit. And with sex.

ETA: Which I realise doesn't make that much sense if you're still in S1, but I can't really elaborate without being extremely spoilery... For me the whole relationship dynamic was very similar, although obviously in a bit of a condensed way, considering that the whole of TW canon is barely as long as one and a half seasons of Angel.

'Five by Five' is the ep where Angel (the show, and the character) really comes into its (his) own. The sheer rawness of the emotions at the end are still some of the most powerful in the whole show.

I've been resisting the urge to be all IANTO WAS BASED ON WESLEY, but I'm starting to be all IANTO WAS BASED ON WESLEY. I'm half joking. But only half!
Yes. No. See there is so many similarities, and yet... despite loving Wesley (and his journey) like you wouldn't believe, I never had that overarching obsession that I felt for Ianto. (I can't say more yet.)

It's not clear to me how much the Willow/Tara relationship was shaped by the network's total unwillingness to show lesbian kissage. It's clear to me Whedon would've used spellcasting as a metaphor for their dawning relationship regardless, but I don't know that he would have gone this far without being specifically disallowed from showing it in the usual way.

Re Angel: you're into the good stuff now. (:

I have trouble believing people took so long to believe Willow and Tara were "together." It's bad enough that Joss has to hand hold the Corporate Watchdogs, whose idea of pushing the edge is bigger explosions and just how much hetereosexual skin can they get away with showing, does he have to hold ours too?

I actually had another paragraph to go on Tara-Willow, but at the last second I checked an episode guide and realized I'd be posting spoilers, so I deleted it.

I loved that torture scene for all those reasons. Then Faith started listing off sensations, and chose "Sharp" next, and I started yelling at the screen that no, no, sharp is LAST, cold causes less damage...

And I realized I was totally buying it as a scene and I thought she was just young and impatient and incompetent. Very impressive.

(Man, I wanted to slap Angelus when he mentioned chainsaws. You can't torture someone with a chainsaw unless you're *done.*)
