- I am now the GLBT Business Examiner at Examiner.com, if you have a story idea for me, please let me know (i.e., are you a queer small business owner? executive? participant in your company's diversity committee? talk to me).

- Textbroker is now making me fax them a copy of my passport, because I had the temerity to register from a UK IP address and now they don't believe ALL THE OTHER INFORMATION I PROVIDED THEM THAT I AM A US CITIZEN. I worked hard not to be snarky in my reply to them.

- OMG, I JUST ATE THE BEST INDIAN FOOD IN EVER. Seriously, all our other meals have been decent, but I don't see any reason to eat anything other than Indian food in this country. And this, from me, who HATED Indian food five years ago. OMG SO GOOD.

- We are totally thinking of going to a Bhangra club night this weekend.

- I finally can say Ianto properly and not like Jack does. Patty mocks me.

- Speaking of Patty, she's in the bathtub. Why am I on the Internet? zoom....

One of my Welsh friends insists that Jack is the only one who says it properly. Surely she is putting me on? But there you go. Then again, there is quite a lot of diversity even among Welsh accents.

Keep having a good time!

:D

So how do you say it?

I like the way Jack says Ianto. It's all... BOSSY.

I don't see any reason to eat anything other than Indian food in this country.

Hrmmm, I'd be dead of starvation in that case! It smells great but then comes loaded up with fresh coriander/cilantro which entirely takes away my appetite. And asking them to leave it off has in the past earned me a 10-minute tirade from the chef ....

-Congrats! I have a friend who was just named an expert in a related subject. Will be interesting, though, because she's hardcore Republican on everything but gay rights and (looks around for mutual friends listening) so far, not a very good writer...
-I felt the same way when I went to London. Though my obligatory fish and chips was quite good too.
-You should go! I'm listening to a Bhangra CD today, in fact. Is it just the music or will you be learning the namesake dancing, too?
-I never realized there was a difference. I suppose we should blame this on his American accent? ;)
-;)

I'm a queer sole proprietor. Also, of my 10 long-term clients, at least 4 have been openly queer. Odd statistically, but kind of cool.

Huzzah for Indian food!

It's usually what I eat when I'm cooking for myself. Everything else just seems so bland in comparison. After-all, he who controls the Spice, controls the universe! ;P

Congrats on the new gig.

And maybe Patty is in the bathtub by herself because sometimes, a girl just has to wash her hair by herself.

I cook a LOT of Indian food (mostly Northern Indian, because that's what I was taught by the woman who taught me Indian cooking; she's spent most of her college years studying there); I'm able to control both my gluten (yay!) and even - for me - more importantly my lactose that way (lord, it's hidden everywhere; I'm sure you know from the gluten stuff alone). And OMG IT'S SO NOM. Would be happy to send you some recipes when you get home. Easy stuff that is not surprisingly even better the 2nd or even 3rd day. :)

So, no more YANTOE for you? Only EEE-AANNN-TOE?

But it's not. It's like this weird thing in the middle. And the a is funny. It's actually a bit like the a sound I could never make in Australia, but can now.

And yes, please, recipes!

As far as I could always tell (spent some time in Wales when I was in the UK in the 80s for a bit & was learning some Welsh and also Irish, since I was technically teaching in Ireland at the time), it's almost a dipthong that sounds in the back of the throat. I'm sure if I had a proper font to show it in LJ I could, but I suspect I think we're talking about that same vowel sound. It's quite a wonderful vowel combination, I think. (What causes the "ia" to become that sound is that the "a" is aspirated because it follows the sounded "i" -- Irish does that too, and Welsh does it with some consonants. That's how you end up, for instance in Irish Gaelic, with the name written "Cuchulain" and it's pronounced "Koohoolan." Though ... that's seriously dumbed down; I know you know that. Plus, some of them were "reconstructed" several times in the recent centuries, which doesn't help matters any.)

And then there's the Welsh "ll" which is wild, but once you learn to say it without sound like either one of the English or a rabid dog, it's a rather lovely soft consonant that's only found in that particular variant of the Gaelic languages.

I shall PM you some recipes (or even post some to my LJ -- I should do that for my own record-keeping sometime anyway!) in the next week or so. I love passing along these Indian recipes!

1. They expected to make actual money.

2. The quality of other content at examiner was so low that even when their stuff was good they had trouble being taken seriously

3. Very buggy CMS
