- Textbroker is now making me fax them a copy of my passport, because I had the temerity to register from a UK IP address and now they don't believe ALL THE OTHER INFORMATION I PROVIDED THEM THAT I AM A US CITIZEN. I worked hard not to be snarky in my reply to them.

- OMG, I JUST ATE THE BEST INDIAN FOOD IN EVER. Seriously, all our other meals have been decent, but I don't see any reason to eat anything other than Indian food in this country. And this, from me, who HATED Indian food five years ago. OMG SO GOOD.

- We are totally thinking of going to a Bhangra club night this weekend.

- I finally can say Ianto properly and not like Jack does. Patty mocks me.

- Speaking of Patty, she's in the bathtub. Why am I on the Internet? zoom....

As far as I could always tell (spent some time in Wales when I was in the UK in the 80s for a bit & was learning some Welsh and also Irish, since I was technically teaching in Ireland at the time), it's almost a dipthong that sounds in the back of the throat. I'm sure if I had a proper font to show it in LJ I could, but I suspect I think we're talking about that same vowel sound. It's quite a wonderful vowel combination, I think. (What causes the "ia" to become that sound is that the "a" is aspirated because it follows the sounded "i" -- Irish does that too, and Welsh does it with some consonants. That's how you end up, for instance in Irish Gaelic, with the name written "Cuchulain" and it's pronounced "Koohoolan." Though ... that's seriously dumbed down; I know you know that. Plus, some of them were "reconstructed" several times in the recent centuries, which doesn't help matters any.)

And then there's the Welsh "ll" which is wild, but once you learn to say it without sound like either one of the English or a rabid dog, it's a rather lovely soft consonant that's only found in that particular variant of the Gaelic languages.

I shall PM you some recipes (or even post some to my LJ -- I should do that for my own record-keeping sometime anyway!) in the next week or so. I love passing along these Indian recipes!
