I really would have just made it an "ooopsie science" thing, as opposed to "THERE IS ALWAYS MALEVOLENCE." This episode really took a turn that distracted from what was interesting about it, I felt.

At least, he flirts with just about everyone at some point or other. (OMGs, Jack is part Angel & part Lorne. *boggles*) Also, I'm not sure sex and/or gender are all that binary for his species, but you may not have reached the relevant eps yet, so I'll leave it there.
