Yesterday involved a somewhat surreal breakfast at the inn of waffles (they had gluten-free for me) with strawberries, blueberries, vanilla icecream and big fucking American flagtoothpics right in the middle of it. I'm nearly certain it was in honor of V-J day, and isn't that a little awkward? At the moment, I'm waiting for Patty to wake up to see what today will bring.

Then we went down to the beach, where it was fairly chilly and the water was extremely rough, but Patty went down to play in iy while I read porny fanfic on my phone. For a while there were two women sitting near us discussing The Kids Are All Right which they liked but thought any and all sexual activity between the lesbians that occurred was "unnecessary to the story" and the "graphic porn with the gay men was really confusing." Sounds like my type of movie. On Twitter, I mentioned that Patty and I were tempted to make out out of spite. This story is more amusing than the woman in the perfectly clean bathrooms at the beach admonishing her eight-year-old child to never, ever sit on a public toilet seat lest she get diseases. The Jersey shore can be so dark ages.

Later we went and got Mexican food to go from this super divey place that we took back to eat on the room balcony. Next-door to it was an Italian ice place called The Ice Hut, and the teen boy that worked there and his girlfriend were fucking off between customers by blasting awesome 80s music on their iPod + doc and dancing around like fools.

"They must think they are so cool and all retro," Patty said.

"They are so cool. And I bet they're shagging in the ice shack thingy when no one is around."

They looked all embarrassed when we went to get the ices and turned down the music, as if we wouldn't understand.

For dinner we went to a restaurant in town (a three mile walk round-trip from where we're staying -- there are way fewer walkable food choices here than in Ocean Grove/Asbury Park) that turned out to be quite nice and the only signs of life anywhere after dark other than the ice cream store named The Blarney Cone. Yeah, really. Friday we had a great meal at this place called The Mill that turned into this local nightclub after dark which was surreal for both the level of desperation involved and the age spread -- we only saw that very briefly, as we left, since sitting down to eat at 8:30 make you quite nearly, always, the last people to finish dinner around here.

So soon, inn breakfast, packing up to check out, then hoping they will hold our luggage so we can spend the day on the beach again.

any and all sexual activity between the lesbians that occurred was "unnecessary to the story" We just thought "Wow! Married people having sex in a movie...that's kinda rad!" and also "WITH THE KIDS AT HOME, EVEN!"

I'm afraid I would have asked them if the far more graphically depicted het sex was also "unnecessary to the story"?

I just saw "The Kids are All Right" and liked it a lot. I don't get this ridiculous "lesbian sex is unnecessary o noes" riff especially given the context of the sex. Not only are they completely covered (they are literally under the covers) but they are also interrupted partway through. Meanwhile, there's plenty of very naked, very intense hetero fucking. I guess that's fine, though for some reason. Stupid hetero normative assholes. I would have been make out city if I were in your situation but I'm not known for being the most tolerant or understanding person in the world. Also? Spiteful So very spiteful.

You should see the movie. I suspect there are many things about it you will love (I thought Annette Bening's performance was inspired) and a few things you'll hate (the overwhelming hetero stuff in what should have been a, frankly, more queer positive film, in my opinion). I thought there were more pluses than minuses. If you see it, expect me to want to talk about with you in depth.

I was mildly disappointed with The Kids are Alright because of the complete demonization of the male character. I felt so bad for him taking all of the blame for the family's problems and identified with him far more than I would expect being a queer woman... But I loved, loved, loved Juliane Moore's attempt to explain to her son why they, as lesbians, watch gay male porn.

Wow, it has been years since I spent time here at LJ. I've missed your blogs. I came back to try to get insight on meals post my celiac diagnosis.

"As if we wouldn't understand"

Sometimes if it's a teenager I know I'll tell them I still remember, and sometimes if they know me they can still see enough of it in me to believe me. Other times stuff happens like someone in her 20s at work saying how cool it is that I still listen to music (??) and I think maybe no one ever believes that adults could possibly get anything.

Hahaha, so often we are the oldest people at shows we go to. People probably think we're the drummer's parents or something.

... Considering the manner in which VJ day came about, that goes beyond awkward. That's actually kind of gross :/

Huh, this made me want to go see "The Kids Are Alright" when before I wasn't all that keen.

Maybe I'll drag my parental units to it :)

I'm really curious about The Kids Are Alright and will probably see it next weekend if it's still playing. I keep hearing such mixed things -- it's amazing, it's disappointing; it's too queer, it's not queer enough; blah, blah, blah.

Those kids with the ices are the most adorkable thing ever.

I was completely in love with them. It was the teen summer I never had.
