So, Naperville. We're here. We're about to go downstairs for the free breakfast buffet and then take the shuttle to the train station to go to my wonderful Chicago. It has utterly warmed my heart after what has been a stressful 24 hours.

White Collar on Tuesday: need to re-watch because I was in the middle of laundry and missed a few key scenes, and also because I want to do a serious critique of the card playing stuff in it. You will have this soon.

Covert Affairs on Tuesday: It would have been a better, more serious show, if the hit on the aide having the affair had come clearly from the CIA and been successful, because I want Annie to have to deal with bigger murkiness than she has thus far. Hey, don't yell, I liked CoE. That said, AUGGIE! Holy shit that plotline. Also, I stand by my pre-series Auggie/Joan feelings of awesome. Watch this show people, it has just gotten AWESOME.

I was kind of geeking out over the course of that episode. The only thing that ticked me was that they stuck with Texas Hold 'Em. But I guess they have to play the game that everyone plays.

Considering how many shows go with five card draw, I thought Hold 'Em was an improvement. Although it seemed really weird to me that they explicitly made it tournament style. I thought the playing was probably the least crap I've seen on-screen, although I might rewatch too, 'cause my mind is going kind of wtf over the relevant hand.

Definitely interested in what rm has to say, and what sort of thing.

I guess I don't see Hold 'Em as that vast an improvement because that's all they seem to play in television poker these past few years, which my late brother inflicted on us quite a bit. Then again, this technically is television poker.

Yeah, dance. I started noticing a name I thought I recognized from your regular mention, oh, a couple months ago? Thought it might just be a matter of time before you appeared too.

Even back when we were playing all sorts of poker in the parlor I was getting the distinct impression from people I talked to that Hold 'Em was the most played variant in legal gambling establishments, and with TV it's been spreading in popularity a ton for home games. While I have no idea what people play in organized crime run illegal high-stakes games, my guess would be no limit Texas Hold 'Em (but while I don't know if they'd allow buy-in or even mid-hand buy-in, I doubt it would be Last Man Standing).
