My main anthem for such moods is "I Have The Touch", by Peter Gabriel.

"When I am King," Great Big Sea.

(Also "Ordinary Day" and "Everything Shines" and, well, lots of their songs have the ability to induce that mood in me.)

Oh, oh "The Wizard and I" I actually sort of live in terror of that song... I love it, but so much of that narrative arc is about how the people we admire from afar disapoint up-close. For me, that song is always a cautionary tale.

Oh, where to start?

• Janelle Monae's "Many Moons" - as much because Monae is fucking awesome as because the song is, well, also fucking awesome.

• Pretty much anything by Alkaline Trio, but I fully accept that very few people over the age of 18 appear to share this feeling.

• Metric. Most Metric songs, but particularly "Black Sheep," from the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack.

There are so so so many more but I'm not at home in front of the wall of CDs and thus nothing is coming to mind. I keep asking myself, What would I put on if I needed to feel like hot shit and was the furthest thing from it? And the answer is probably Monae, Metric, Superchunk, The Anniversary, Elastica... and The Thermals. Particularly "No Culture Icons."

Oo!

"Use the Force" - Jamiroquai (this one is particularly good)
"Big Time" - Peter Gabriel
"Beauty in the World" - Macy Gray (Cutmore Extended Remix)

I could add more once I get home. I've got a whole playlist on my home computer but don't remember a lot of the songs, off the top of my head.

You and me on "Let it Rock" man. I've written pretty much all of what's done of ConSweet so far to that song on repeat.

That's certainly true.

I confess, I always forget that because I've read the book, and I own the OBCR, but I've never actually seen the show. So I don't remember exactly what the major plot points are.

I just love how darn hopeful that song is.

I had heard "Defying Gravity" first, and I knew the context in which that song happens, so from the moment I heard "The Wizard and I" it broke my heart. I haven't seen the show, but Megan did around the time I was being unemployed and seeing Boheme a lot, and I remember her telling me about it, and how I'd find several things about it really emotionally hard, and I've always sort of kept that song in mind in that context.

New Order's "True Faith". Just forget it's about heroin addiction...

"I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold of me
I get the feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty"

"Defying Gravity" is a good one for me when I'm on the treadmill. Sort of like, "Fuck you, heart defect!"

Followup plot point: I got tickets because I was the bartender for the cast party.

KNOWLEDGE GAINED: Taye Diggs is kinda more insanely adorable in person than he is on screen. His drink order:
"May I have a Coca-Cola, please ma'am?"

Hee!

Taye Diggs went to the same high school as an ex of mine.

Anytime he's mentioned, I imagine him as a teen in Rochester, going to their analog to LaGuardia and being awesome.
