  • Friday night (FYI: starting this post Friday night, but won't post until Saturday, so if the timeline feels all fucked up, that's why) I failed at a company function to win a weekend holiday in Europe for Patty and I. I feel really sad about it. I suspect that missing Patty, being homesick for New York, being exhausted, and being on the rag have just all crashed into each other and it might be a few days before I get my equilibrium back.

  • [livejournal.com profile] mithrigil, my collaborator for things Treble Entendre and particularly Dogboy & Justine has her birthday today. Unfortunately, it's not really as simple as wishing her a happy birthday. She explains why in her journal. Good thoughts as feel appropriate to you and to her appreciated.

  • I'm listening to "Green Grass of Tunnel" and "The One You Love" by Mum and Rufus Wainwright obsessively, and that's probably a bad sign, since those are my "NIDA is for crying" songs. If nothing else, I'll have dreams about the Trop or that shady Oporto in Kings Cross.

  • Oi, my flatmate again with the Afrikaaner rap. Why? WHY? Hahahahaha, the neighbors just complained!!!!

  • In email with [livejournal.com profile] bodlon just now I was mentioning some other musical choices and he said, "I suppose the descent of the Toclafane would enliven my biology class experience" which may be my new in-joke catch phrase of the week.

  • Sinclair Sexsmith is relaunching the Top Hot Butches project with less hierarchy, steps taken to resolve transfail, and more community interaction. More information and instructions for nominating here. I really like where it seems to be going this year.

  • Okay, my first screenwriting competition assignment is in: a fantasy, set in an abandoned house, using a diamond engagement ring as an item. Yes, really. I have a couple of ideas. Plan today; write tomorrow.

  • The two students linked to the bullying that seems to have triggered the suicide of Tyler Clementi have withdrawn from Rutgers.

  • Classical and historical fencing tournament in NYC area may be of interest to several of you.

  • US says genes should not be eligible for patenting. This is a policy shift.

  • A mega-church founder has come out in response to the recent publicity over suicides of teens that were bullied for being or being perceived as gay.

  • An LJ auction is being held for [livejournal.com profile] snowcoma who needs help paying for medical care: [livejournal.com profile] savesnowssanity.

  • I started this post last night when I was feeling sad, stressed and isolated. Now I am in Starbucks using the one hour of free Internet at high speed (I wonder what low speed will be like) that I can have here, and I feel instantly more functional. Alarming that.

That is huge. Reading down the article, it sounds like this will shift policy in a good direction.

I saw nothing more than the headline, but that does sound hugely significant, and not only for North America. Remains to be seen what M______o will do to try and weasel out of it...

I left a message for mithrigil. And gave her my costume. I'll be marching tomorrow night, too. And yes, I know how back it is to find anyone in that luntic horde that is the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade- lost the people I was marching with one year- but maybe...

Thank god on the genetic patenting.

I'm not sure how anyone thought they *could* be because I though the patent process excluded naturally occuring things but ....

Thank you, it means a lot to me. You know more about the path from there to here than a lot of people, and I'm grateful for it.

US says genes should not be eligible for patenting.

I read 'eligible for parenting' and was confused. Apparently I need more coffee.

The Grand Assault would be so tempting if I were in shape. I'm so not, though. :(
