"Smile Time" is the single greatest hour of television I have ever seen.

Also, go Wes!

WEE LITTLE PUPPET MAN

It's the slo-mo hero walk, headed up by wee little puppet Angel, that I love best in that episode. That's what totally makes it for me.

Such a grumpy, grumpy little puppet with a brooding brow!

Isn't it? :-D

As soon as I saw Angel as a puppet, I was just waiting for when Spike discovered it. And it did not disappoint!

Agreed, and by that time I had almost given up on Angel. But that was amazing.

"You heard the puppet."

This is among the reasons I'm so glad I know you: you are not afraid to proclaim something as AWESOME. Like this.

"Kill me": both funny and disturbing. And that squeak at the climax! THIS WHOLE EPISODE SHOULD NOT HAVE WORKED, and it worked like gangbusters. Even me, who had never seen an entire Angel episode before that+, was impressed.

+ I'd tried watching the episode with the aftermath of Angel and Darla fucking, the one which aired after Buffy's "The Body" back in 2001. Bad idea. I was still in a shook-up place because of "The Body," and I wasn't able to pick up enough about Angel's story to get into it.

At the time, a friend of mine said about "Smile Time", "It's not merely the best Angel episode ever, it's the best Angel episode possible." I'm inclined to agree.

And it's brilliant! The sheer daring of the production team to do something so obviously daft--and then pulling it off! :) And Spike! OMG, Spike finding Angel! *g*

I've been waiting for a long time, ever since you started watching Angel, for you to get to that episode.
