We're home; we're still plague-free; we got Christmas gift technology working.
ladyofthelog continues to be awesome with cats and handling the house while we've been away. My gratitude for coming home to stuff being handled beyond my dreams is immense. After 8 hours in the car, a detour through a casino (WHERE WE GOT CARDED), and everything else, so so so grateful.
Running around now as we focus on getting Patty to India, although I will let her announce her own itinerary.
Two episodes away from the end of Angel. Oh god, Wesley. You are so the wrong combination of pattern recognition machine, doing the right thing, and a foolish in ability to lie to yourself.
On that note, I should tell you Patty and I have this weird Ilyria/Wes thing going on, wherein I refer to her as "my little godking of the universe." This is probably only funny to us. But we think it's fucking hilarious.
Joe speculated in his usual flavor of snark and jest that whatever it is in Arkansas, it's moving along I-40. I, meanwhile, have reacted in the only way I know how, which is to write bizarre little stories about it to myself in the hopes that one of them will turn into a bigger story.
I am super bummed about Peter Postlewthwaite.

My brain is trying to form causal relationships here. It's really entertaining.
Several minor points on animal kills in Arkansas as seen from the vicinity.
The idea that fireworks were involved is bootless. Over the last few years fireworks have been almost banned most places in the state. Before that it was wide open. If there was an effect on birds by fireworks and general gunfire at midnight when I was a kid the ground would have been covered every year.
The news has not taken note of the fact that fish death started directly downstream from a bridge. The midnight disposal of industrial wastes is not unknown in this area.
Saw on@tweetsofold that a flock of birds fell dead from the sky in 1893. May this shit just happens for no reason occasionally? Though my personal intuition says illegal pollution.
The thing I find frustrating about Wesley is his refusal to stop making the mistake where he thinks he knows something, refuses to share that information with others, and does something horrific as a result. It always seems to me he should be smarter than that, yet it happens nearly every season.
It's agonizing. But the thing about smart people is, I think, that the blind spots can be bigger, as can the damages being held onto. Also, with the erasure of the Connor info; he was deprived of data that might have taught him the goddamn lesson this time around.
I know I often tend to get into shows for their side characters, but by this point, Angel and Spike seem like incidental fan-service comedy and the story is ALL ABOUT WESLEY, and I'm pretty sure that's not just my filters.
When all was said and done, Wesley's story arc was the best of the lot. I HATED Buffy!Era!Wesley and was not happy to initially have him transition to Angel
But he grew and he learned and he fucked up. And grew and learned some more. And became every bit the bad-ass he so wanted to be (and was terrified of actually becoming...rightfully so).
I think Mr. Denisof is the best skilled actor on there, which is why it's so agonizing to watch, I think. His performance is nuanced enough that the complexity of the character comes through. The character reads as coherent even when I want to beat him over the head with something heavy.
Himself just started a new set of acting classes last night. There was this blond woman in her 40s whom he thought looked and sounded very familiar, but couldn't quite figure out from where.
Then he overheard her giving her name to somebody asking how to find her on IMDB: Stephanie Romanoff.
