Sorry, the temptation was just too great.

Me with others? Not so much -- probably that nightmare discussion that happened here about anti-Islamic bias. That was really awful and painful because it involved people I know f2f and caused some friendships to end.

Other people with me? Yeah, apparently the audacity of my having pride in the stuff I do is really, really not okay. It sounds even more absurd when I say it out loud.

Hilarious because: new blog title.

Oh, LOLZ, people, LOLZ.

*sigh*

WELL I LOVE YOU. That and $1.59 will buy you a Coke, as my dad used to say. (Only he said "a nickel", because he was fuckin' ancient.)

My mom always said, "That and a Metrocard will get you on the subway."

My mom kept up with the times.

Dude, let's play I AM ANCIENT. What's the cheapest subway fare you remember?

Ooh, good one.

I want to say $1.15? Maybe $0.75?

I don't recall too well because I had a bus pass long before I kept track of the fares.

I remember when they raised it to $.70

Which means I remember pizza for that price. Candy bars were $.35

I remember candy bars for $.35.

There was a newsstand around the corner from "Big Dalton" called Farrell's. There was just enough time between when school let out and when I had to get on my bus (really a chartered van, OH PRIVATE SCHOOL) to take me home.

Also, in 4th grade, I got a $3 allowance, so I had to figure out how far I could stretch it, and still buy sweets every day.

THIS. Although I only got $2. Average at Hewitt? Between $20 - $40. NOT KIDDING.

SERIOUSLY.

It wasn't until 11th grade I got anything approaching that much, and I had to argue like heck for it.

WTF does a 9 year old need with $40/week?

AND FOR THOSE READING ALONG, THAT'S LIKE $100 IN TODAY'S MONEY.

LOL, I was about to say that my $3 was your $2, adjusted for inflation.

Srs, I used to envy the big-city kids I'd read about in novels, taking buses and subways to museums like grown-ups. In retrospect, I did walk for 45 minutes to school, so that was pretty far for a 5th grader. And we did ride bikes pretty far, but subways seemed so cool.

Allowance was used on Circle K candy or biscochitos at the awesome bakery in the strip mall. :D

I think mine was 50 cents in 1st grade. I remember well the thing of buying a candy-bar-and-bouncy-ball at the grocery store. (When I went with my mom.)

I don't recall when/if it went up, though.

KEEPING TRACK OF THE FARES: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City_transit_fares

Have fun, random reader with a transit interest!*

*I say that because I myself could lose an hour to that information black hole...
