So many things I want to write about on LfT right now, but I've a done of work to do. Hopefully soon however:
- this wacky universal Internet ID plan (which is horrible) and pseundonymous vs. anonymous identity - "fuck you and your untouchable face" -- why mentors will break your heart - Miss New York and her LGBT-rights platform
New Mexico recognizes same sex marriages performed out of state. (http://newmexicoindependent.com/68490/king-says-new-mexico-can-recognize-out-of-state-same-sex-marriages) It's not all the way there yet, but it's a step in the right direction.
Y'know what astounds me - last year an anti-tax activist flew a plane into a building, killing himself and a victim. Yet this did not inspire this current conversation, even though there was a far more concrete political motivation and rhetorical connection.
Yes, this incident is more spectacular, but it's almost like the motives have to be ambiguous before the discussion can commence because otherwise there's no room for "balance", i.e. false equivalence.
Not only did he crash into an office building and cause major havoc at a busy intersection, he burned down his home and left his family with nothing but his paranoid manifesto. Lucky for them they were not in the house at the time. In the months before they got around to tearing down the burned out husk, I would drive past the house since it was in my neighborhood and wonder just why the hell people weren't a little more freaked out about the whole thing.
I am too. I have an intense disline of anon meme's on LJ not just because they also don't like me ;) but because you can't tell what's someone talking to themselves and what isn't. That said, I think everyone is absolutely entitled to as many pseudonymous identities not connected to their actual selves as they damn well please.
I've apparently always tried to keep a personal life and a public life walled off from each other, and the mere thought of not being able to do that has me nervous and annoyed.
No matter who I am, I have a name and a face, you know? Even if the face people see is my idealized cartoon self with the blue hair, it's still a face and it's mine.
