- something that doesn't suck that looks asexuality in literature or media from a queer theory perspective
- old/bad/offensive material that presents asexuality as the absence of orientation instead of an orientation in and of itself
Also? As much as I'm all "I support gun rights" I was flabberghasted to learn some of the stats she cited.
And in the name of not saying shit in 140 characters or less, I also want to note that I really, really support gun control; in fact I want a bumper sticker: "I support gun rights _and_ gun control."
I think people should be able to have and get guns legally. I also have no problem with waiting periods and no problem with bans on certain types of guns and gun parts that don't have legitimate sport, self-defense, or hunting applications (and let me just pause to say there's responsible hunting, and then there's cruel, evil, wasteful hunting).
And the carry laws in Arizona? Really really bad.
You guys all know I loathe 3D, because it tends to give me a headache, and because Patty can't see it. That said, more organic 3D that's about something other than shit blowing up? Interesting (like that 3D Carmen that's happening). And if you look at the visual depth in the collage-style design of a lot of the marketing stuff Luhrmann's movies, I think you can kinda see what he's thinking. I also think that the unreality I feel more accutely with 3D films than 2D films despite what 3D is supposed to do works for Luhrmann's heightened reality aesthetic which demands the audience recognize itself as audience and participate.
Do I think it'll work? Dunno. Do I want it? see: 3D and I don't get along. Do I think this is a film experiment that someone has to try? Yeah. Luhrmann makes more sense than most as the guy to do it. I mean, think about what would have happened if Moulin Rouge! had been in 3D... it almost makes sense.

Date: 2011-01-11 04:55 pm (UTC)I'm so moderate at this point that I tend to flail when discussing politics (really, the only issues I am truly fierce about are abortion/reproductive rights and QUILTBAG rights; there may be more but I'm sick and fibromyalgia-struck and can't remember).
You nailed it. Is it okay if I quote you?
