Briefly communicatedwith Patty last night via text message. She gets no days off on the dig! But now I know when I can call her and it was good to hear form her.

In Ohio we went to dinner at the house of one of Patty's closest friends. We do this every time we're in Ohio, it's always a blast, and it feels like a sort of general fail that we only manage this one a year.

You can also faintly see what I got for holidays from Patty -- which was my ears repierced. They had closed up, and it was annoying to me on those ocassions when I am dress-up girl. I got it done with a 14-gauge nedle, so I can actually put weird, thick piercing jewelry in them, and I've been wearing those horseshoe shaped circular barbells til they heal because they don't necessarily code as female.

Do you have some sort of coles notes primer on your life and Patty's? I follow your adventures, but sometimes I don't have the slightest idea what's going on. And I'd like to learn.

Hahahaha, no really. What do you need to know? We mey on LJ writing Swordspoint fanfic; eventually started dating; a few weeks later she went to Cyprus for a dig (she's an archaeologist) my roommate decided to move to China and said I should ask Patty to move in since her lease expired right after she got back. I did, it was scary, she said yes. That was almost 4 years ago; right now she's doing a dig in India and will be home in March for the rest of 2011 essentially (barring a business or family trip here or there).

You are the only other person I know of who's ear piercings closed on. I've had mine redone about 4 times. If I take my earings out for more than a couple of days they close up no matter how long the earings were in previously. Hmm, maybe a larger gague is what I need.

btw, you two do look adorable as alway.

I had gone months and months without wearing mine at a time, and one day I just couldn't stap and earing back through when I needed to.

Thank you!

If it makes you feel better, my mom's holes closed up on her :) Mine are pretty good about staying open, though.

You 2 are to fucking cute.

My ear closed up, too. But I rarely wear any jewelry, even when "dressing up" so never concerned myself with it. One of the piercings kept trying to infect, too. :-(

I've been wearing those horsue shaped circular barbells til they heal because they don't necessarily code as female.

That's what I always wear in mine, largely for the same reason.

That picture is adorable. :) I am now having a moment of self-doubt, though, because I thought the word for that shape was horseshoe? As in, shaped like the shoes for horses' feet. But maybe I missed something! It would be neither the first time nor the last. :)

Merely a typo.

A plausible typo, though. :)

I used to wear those all the time, three in each ear. But my shower scrubbie kept getting caught on them, leaving me standing in the shower using whatever razor I had left there to slice the scrubbie out since everything was too slippery to simply unscrew them.

I switched to captive bead rings so all of my piercings would match and so my scrubbie wouldn't get stuck to my head.

Also, my holes closed up all the freaking time (as in within a few hours of taking them out regardless of how long they'd been pierced), so I got everything re-pierced with a needle and have left the jewlery in ever since.

One of mine closed, one didn't. The one that closed never did heal quite right. I'd like to re-pierce, but the one that *did* heal is crooked, this is annoying to me, and I tell it to everyone as a cautionary "Don't go get pierced at the mall!" story. (Hey, it was 1985, and pretty much no one knew about professional piercing back then, unless you were hardcore.)

You totally look like the romantic image of an archeologist in that image, and Patty like the girlfriend sporting a souvenir of the last exotic dig site.

SWORDSPOINT FANFIC? I swoon.

That is my favorite book in the entire universe and I commissioned my roommate to make Alec and Richard bears to give to Ellen.

We take the characters out and play with them every so often, but have never written anything as formal as fanfic. Although we swiped Anthony Lindley out of The Fall of the Kings and worked him into our original universe because we felt he needed a happier ending. Ellen and Delia professed delight at hearing this when I sheepishly admitted it -- they said SOMEBODY ought to give him a happy ending, and were glad that I'd cared enough.

Oh yeah. I mean, Patty's an academic and I KEEP SWORDS BY THE BED. And the first time we met, I kid you not, some weird dude in a bar was fucking with us, and I was trying to show her how to stab him with a dinner knife and I KID YOU NOT he actually then said to us (and there's no way he could have known the inadvertent reference), "Oh my god, if you stab me, will I be real?"

That's amazing.

It is my contention that "I've brought us some fish" is the most romantic sentence in the English language.
