Egypt

If you're not watching the Al Jazeera feed right now, you should be if you can.

Many of their correspondents are crying, talking about being born the week Mubarak came into power. There was just an interview with one women who was sobbing and she said, "This is everything I've ever cared about. As a woman. About Palestine. Now anything is possible."

Then a male correspondent: "I've seen people give birth, I've seen people get married. I've seen people graduate, and I have never seen happiness like this."

I was listening to that just now. Really amazing.

Amazing. I was so crushed when I heard they were celebrating last night, handing around packages of dates, and then Mubarak was all, "I'm not leaving." So this is incredible and YAY!!

I am covering the receptionist's lunch and we have the big-screen TV on and, while I can't see it, all I can hear is this happy chatter and crowds cheering.

It is awesome.

It's pretty amazing being able to watch this history in the making.

I called my daughter who isn't working today and urged her to find the website. It's not everyday we get to witness this kind of history.

Yup. I'm really sad Patty can't get any media where she is. She's too young to remember the Berlin Wall coming down, and me relaying this to her on the phone just doesn't have the same effect.

And watching videos of it afterwards isn't the same either. I still have a piece of the Berlin Wall somewhere that my uncle got for us when he visited not too long after it came down.

To get al-Jazeera English on my tv I have to put up with Amy Goodman and Thom Hartmann's commentary and neither of them is exciting to listen to. However, MSNBC is carrying a live feed and it's making me want to jump for joy.

FWIW, I was a full grown politically active adult when the Berlin Wall came down and this feels even more exciting. We had more than 18 days advance warning that something big was going down in Germany.

I admit I'm concerned about what's going to happen after today, but I remain confident it will be an improvement over what it was like.

Fucking amazing.

It really makes me hopeful and apprehensive for things to come.

My only problem is that the statement "the military has taken over" automatically makes me nervous. Hopefully that's only a knee-jerk reaction and this won't be a bad thing.
