Jul. 21st, 2003 09:06 amI told
mijra the other day, that the Internet for me has always been about fragile voices from a distant land, transmitted by magic, or at least two tin cans and a string. Which is perhaps why audblog is so much fun. The net hasn't felt like that, truly, in a _long_ time.

Jul. 21st, 2003 09:04 pmThis stage managing thing continues to go well, although I am exhausted. I am however Making Friends and Influencing People, and may have a line in on getting more stage managing work, specifically leading to being an Equity SM, which, while not the be all end all goal, is not a bad thing.
I've also discovered that a number of people in this showcase are in their 30s and had other lives before quite litterally running off to England to study theatre. This stuns me, and thrills me, and makes my fantasy life seem a tad less insane than I presumed it was. (And no, none of this means I'm about to run off and study theatre in England, just -- more and more I'm discovering that the world is both wider and more accessible to me than previously imagined).
The quality of the work in the showcase of course varies, although I must say the singers are, in particular, of a stunning caliber, and one fellow has a voice that literally moves me to tears every time. Another woman has a song that she does I feel similarly about -- but it's the totality of her acting and the song that gets me there.
The performers are, as a whole, easier to work with than the American-trained actors I've dealt with in the past, although they too have their own set of quirks and demands and things they should never ask a stage manager to do, to the point that I laughed at someone earlier because I thought they had to be joking. For the record, if it is not an emergency prop need, tea, bananas and avacados are not valid requests. I did have to fetch someone a football today though.
I just bought a ton of food, as I'm also the caterer for this thing, and that, is one of tomorrow's many tasks. Go me.
