[Poll #235610]

I was surprised by the degree to which timing won. And after calling Ohio to order those damn envelopes, I then ran around the city to find some here. Glad I ordered from Ohio, where they are cheaper, but now I don't have to obsess on not being able to send anything out for a week. Maes me feel way better, even if it was a kooky obsessive compulsive moment.

The art of strategy generally involves knowing when not to act. This is very challenging for me, and I will probably spend the rest of the night away from the computer just to ensure my compliance with a variety of choices I've just made about something not that important that is still personal and under my skin. Ahhhh, Internet. Yum.

I'm surprisingly about clean living these days. I eat pretty well, and drink infrequently, and then so little to say in moderation would be an exageration. This isn't really about anything other than opportunity, motivation and the things that hold my attention. That said, I'm way overdue for a good rousing night out. I shall have to come up with an occassion. Or some such.
I think the best thing we can say about the Iowa caucuses is that they have knocked Gephardt out of the race and in all probability he will announce the end of his candidacy before they even get to NH. As the nastiest and most divisive of the current candidates with any sort of marketing voice, this can only bode well, both for party unity and Dean. (I also really dislike Gephardt because of my own stupid interaction with him in an airport when I worked the 1996 Democratic Convention).

I'm fascinated by John Edwards coming out of nowhere to take second, and wonder what the rest of his candidacy will do. Considering he looks like a cross between Sam Neill and John Ritter, I have a very hard time taking him seriously.

John Kerry's first place is also incredibly interesting, and brings back to mind the piece I read about Q ratings, and how certain facial features are considered attractive but unlikeable (you've got a long face and prominent features? people will want to do you or paint you, but not like you, apparently) -- the piece was among other things pegged to Kerry's frequent charisma void, despite being a rather theoretically viable candidate for more than one election now.
