Aug. 9th, 2004 08:46 amSaw Manchurian again last night because Kat hadn't seen it. It's not as watchable the second time, although a lot more emerges from it in terms of attention to detail.
What realy jumped out at me (other than, Hey, Coyote, Eleanor never says in that scene that Raymond looks like her dead husband -- you're remembering that from the first one -- it's not there, and thus my creepy nasty interpretation of that moment (which is actually creepier and nastier on second viewing) holds), is the sound design. Really stellar. Also all the songs are so much fun -- where's the soundtrack album dammit? Certainly it's the music that cues us for when Demme is saying "Yes, kids, this is all camp." Of course, the moment it slides right over into that is also the scene I worked on, so it's hard for me to tell is some of my perspective is effected by the degree to which I can see through the illusion (I didn't think it would affect things, but it really has).
No previews worth a damn, other than the short lame one for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.
Really, realy tired.
Show opens Saturday, and I'm realizing how spoiled I was by Counsellor -- we were rehearsing in the performance space, so we knew every detailabout the set and costumes and the house from day one -- we don't have that here... which is a lot more normal for this level of theater, but I do miss the solidity that provided.
Mmmm... boring post, and nothing much else going on to speak of other than continuing to work out, eat decently, and be annoyed by my schedule. And wanting it to be fall so I can be fabulous. I'm in a very nice place with my how I present myself to the world issues, but summer precludes being lovely with it. Certainly, I'm sorta into my Libra foibles right now, and it's hard to be smirky, clever wonderment, when one is a sweaty, cranky, humid New York mess.
Have _got_ to do postcards when I come home tonight.
Feeling pretty positive though. Very much in the "I know I'm going to get there" place, which, well... it makes the postcard mailing stuff both better and worse.
