Yesterday I bought this with the idea of it being a more than excessive pocketwatch fob: http://www.wearablesculpture.com/item.php?Id=889

And now, as ever, I must go to work, but then I can come home and mercifully not do much else other than prep for an audition.
Walkers and It Boys -- the vague evolution of the male socialite:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/04/23/fashion/sundaystyles/23walkers.html

It's an interesting piece, although whether or more or less so depending on if you grew up around such things, I'm not sure. What it doesn't get to entirely are notions of class and freedom, how walkers needn't (and some would argue shouldn't) be as a well born as the ladies in question, since the spotlight, traditionally, hasn't been for them. Now that it increasingly is, the whole idea hints at both work (although a somewhat loose definition of it, I'll grant you) and new money being more acceptable for a socialite (although doesn't that make the definition murky? but I suppose the "celebutante" situation made that clear), and if a boy with a job can be one, what about a girl? Maybe only I, and people who have watched Metropolitan too many times, care about these questions, but they really, really interest me -- although less so for Society as it is, than for Society as it can be reimagined, in this world or any other.
In my search for a Regency tailcoat for this year's ball, I've come upon this:

I'm looking at the RB5033 or the RB584A and have emailed them about sizing pour moi. Ah, the hemming and hawing, and color issues as well. But other recent coat issues aside, this is one that has to be dealt with on a timeline, so hopefully this will sort out as an option.
While I have no particular desire to own such a thing, nor, in general, a particular pull towards the aesthetic in question, something about this puzzled, worried and very blonde doll utterly mesmerizes me. And it's largely [livejournal.com profile] sola's fault, for pointing me to the existence of such things in the first place.

And yes, if $800 porcelin dolls are going to exist, I think it perfectly suitable that they should look like an anime version of Lucius Malfoy, age 20, why do you ask?

And, in a seriously damaged leap of logic, I also take this opportunity to offer you Snakes on a Plane haiku and other poetry: http://www.snakesonablog.com/2006/03/05/snakes-on-a-poem-ii/ (in fact the totality of Snakes on a Blog is hillarious, if you're into that sort of thing).
