If I'm this irritable, it must be Monday. Someone on Judy's Book was shocked and upset that I would referr to myself to negatively as queer. I get that the origins of the word are in a slur, but it's so entirely ordinary to use around here -- and really let's remember it once meant merely peculiar, and I'm certainly that. The whole thing felt to annoying to explain at any particular lenth -- like if I tried to talk about genderqueer I was going to get a response like "but you're such a pretty girl" so I said nothing for a couple of sentences and ignored it. Speaking of JB -- I have to do three more business reviews by the end of the month to get the monthly giftcard reward (of which I have a stack, I really should start spending -- B&N, the movies, Target and Pier 1).

Gather.com is also being annoying. I reposted some of my non-exclusive content from AC there an should manage a B&N giftcard by the end of the week, but everytime someone comments on an article you get this stupid note, "you sparked conversation!" which makes me realize, yet again, just how painful the marketing of "community" websites is. "Look, you said some pointless, poorly conceived drivel, but for once in your life, you're not being ignored. You're special!"

Maybe I ate some gluten (*snerk*) as I have no idea what this mood is. Although I think it's my screwy sleep schedule thanks to Enchanted and that anonymous character hate meme that kept me up too late one night.

Have to work today and this evening, but then a big horrible project should be done and I can reclaim the semblance of a life.
Dear HP Fandom,

Heroin is not a necessary component of any and every story set in the 1970s.

Sometimes people even look skinny and tired for reasons other than heroin. Signing up to follow Voldemort might be one such good bet on the subject.

Idiots.

Mark Ryder, one of the more famous Graham dancers, died recently. I just came across this picture of him dancing from the NYT's obit, and I link it here because I find it so evocative not just of Graham's work (for those not in the know, I studied at her school growing up), but also, perhaps oddly (perhaps not) of many, many things Crowley. Part of it is the quality of the photo (although it's actually rather later than any of the Crowley photos I'm thinking of, mainly since Crowley was dead by 1952), but part of it is also the precision and placement of the flesh. Graham was very specific about the hands of her dancers in a way that western dance generally isn't (graceful and "neutral" being about the extent of it generally), and it was one of the things I always liked about it.

I never really knew until I stopped dancing the Graham work how dated the stuff looks to watch, but it is a language, very clearly, and that is important.

Okay, working on another one of these odd backwards and forwards in time melancholy HP pieces. There's a device in it where Harry gets yelled at for moping about an unsuccessful relationship.

Who did he break up with? I can't decide.
