Seems like everyone had really weird dreams last night. Our carbon monoxide/smoke detector thing keeps going off for a few seconds here and there. I think that means it's time to change the batteries, but I suspect it probably screwed with mydreams, which were difficult and involved dead people I never knew but that friends of mine did, which is why I'm sort of not actually posting, because that's weird.

Today I must continue to run down the missing checks and write lots of AC stuff and hope none of them wind up with the content producer who gives me terrible offers.

I reached a critical point in Melusine on the subway this morning. If what I think is about to happen happens, it's indication #784545 that I really need to make a list of "occult texts you should read before attempting to use sex magick as a major plot device in your fantasy novel."

Maybe no one cares but me, but I care!

Just because the magick in your fantasy novel isn't real doesn't mean it doesn't have to have internal consistancy, a justification for its processes (why you have to do x instead of y) and some sort of philosophical underpinning. Magick _is_ science, and deciding that it's not and therefore doesn't need rules, FUCKS YOUR NOVEL UP.

in which I become a corporate shill

I'm currently playing around with Blogvertise in which you, the blogger, are assigned various companies, websites or whatever to promote in your blog in exchange for pay. We all, of course, know this sort of thing has been going on forever, but aside from being broke due to wackiness with the desk job again, I going to play with Blogvertise in the name of writing an AC article about it. This entry, with all these links to it is part of the Blogvertise approval process. I promise you I won't ever write anything in here without clearly labelling it as a Blogvertise moment, although it would be hard to miss, considering that the required format doesn't really match how anyone writes in their journals. They also claim we can write negative stuff. We shall see. The AC expose awaits.

Horrible, horrible alarm thing solved thanks to the good graces of the bodega next door. I'll need to get a new battery and reattach the alarm tomorrow, but at least I won't be deaf while doing it.

fic rec

This is _the_ fic everyone has been going around rec'ing in the last 24 hours, but oh! There are some things in it that are not to my taste, some sentences I felt could be clearer, stuff like that, but it's terribly good in a "read this and then don't discuss it with me" slightly raw sort of way.

Severus/Hermione with a detailed Severus/Draco backstory. A few porny het passages, but graceful and plotty.

One of the funniest things to me about fanfiction at its finest -- is that for stories that are about possiblities within the parts of canon worlds we don't see, they are so often stories that are also often very much about their own hints and whispers as opposed to their main themes. This one carries a particular quality of needing to listen, both within and without its plot.
