[livejournal.com profile] zarq provides summary and links as regards the LJ implosion. The links are largely external to LJ. That's of note. I would also add on a personal note that I actually believe that LJ/6A probably has a crisis PR person, and that they are probably ot letting that person do their job. Why do I say this? I've been the hamstrung crisis PR person at Internet companies, and it looks just like this. Even if I still worked in teh biz, you could not pay me enough money to touch this shit; when your bosses don't let you do your job in the PR biz, you get tarred with the notion of just being bad at your job.

[livejournal.com profile] p_zeitgeist has some cogent, mature, and not overwhelming common opinions about what LJ's behavior is both bad and disturbing. Go here: http://p-zeitgeist.livejournal.com/62599.html
I will also note in slightly less passing than she mentions it, that I do think both sexism and homophobia is involved in the situation -- women demanding the right to graphically express their desires is disturbing to people, and a bunch of guys having to make decisions about art they not only don't like or understand, but feel threatened by is unavoidably a big factor in this mess that truly is about poor customer service and the delusion that the Internet should make the world smaller, not bigger. [livejournal.com profile] erestor makes the point about how this is about sexuality and sexism (among other things) quite clearly here.

And in the realm of the extremely interesting whether you have a vested interested (personally, I think we all do) or are in it for the car crash. The complaints about [livejournal.com profile] burr86 using his "voice of LJ" account to mock the userbase and basically accuse all of fandom of being pedophiles have apparently been heard. They promised a post tonight. Based on previous timescale issues around here -- I'll put $5 on Wednesday myself.

You might also want to know that when users get TOS'ed it seems that that any evidence they ever existed, including comments they left in other people's journals, are nuked as well.
Well, if you dig history and economics.

This is _exactly_ the thing I needed to read to solve a world-building problem in my novel.

LJ's stupidity makes Der Spiegel: http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/web/0,1518,498677,00.html

Consensus amongst German speakers seems to be that fandom looks neutral, but wacky and LJ looks bad and incompetent.

and on CNET

As per usual fandom looks weird and LJ just looks really stupid.

Fandom needs talking points. Fandom needs to stick to the talking points (hahahaha, I know!) and someone who is not me who has a background in PR needs to start herding the cats.
*whew*

I'm home after doing a lot of physical work in weather where IT JUSt WON'T RAIN. It's pretty annoying and disgusting out.

So I'm sore, I'm tired, I miss Patty and my outrage fatigue and I are going to take a nap. And eat some food. Or maybe eat food before I nap too.

And then it's on to Tackling the Closet. Fun fun fun fun.

Ah, yes, right... also something cool afoot with my column fr Gather, but until they announce it I can't either. It's not like a huge big deal or anything, just cool.

*falls over*

Descensus mirrors will go live soon.
http://asylums.insanejournal.com/descensus_hp/ for now.
Possibly GJ. Ultimately, our own webiste and domain.
ETA: Like on LJ, only [livejournal.com profile] kalichan and I will be members of the community so we can both post; friend to read, and I'm sorry that this is totally confusing.

I view both of these options as non-satisfactory. For now, I will remain here posting all content and backing up to harddrive daily. When a general tracjectory for fandom becomes clear some or all aspects of this journal may migrate.

When my paid time runs out, I won't be reupping.

So no effect on you teh reader, but now you know where to find me if LJ does suddenly decide that writing is as scary as art. Because seriously? If the novel I was working on was visual content and I shared any of the WIP here, I'd be nuked off LJ so fast it's not even funny.
