zarq provides
summary and links as regards the LJ implosion. The links are largely external to LJ. That's of note. I would also add on a personal note that I actually believe that LJ/6A probably has a crisis PR person, and that they are probably ot letting that person do their job. Why do I say this? I've been the hamstrung crisis PR person at Internet companies, and it looks just like this. Even if I still worked in teh biz, you could not pay me enough money to touch this shit; when your bosses don't let you do your job in the PR biz, you get tarred with the notion of just being bad at your job.
p_zeitgeist has some cogent, mature, and not overwhelming common opinions about what LJ's behavior is both bad and disturbing. Go here:
http://p-zeitgeist.livejournal.com/62599.htmlI will also note in slightly less passing than she mentions it, that I do think both sexism and homophobia is involved in the situation -- women demanding the right to graphically express their desires is disturbing to people, and a bunch of guys having to make decisions about art they not only don't like or understand, but feel threatened by is unavoidably a big factor in this mess that truly is about poor customer service and the delusion that the Internet should make the world smaller, not bigger.
erestor makes the point about how this is about sexuality and sexism (among other things) quite clearly here. And in the realm of the extremely interesting whether you have a vested interested (personally, I think we all do) or are in it for the car crash. The complaints about
burr86 using his "voice of LJ" account to mock the userbase and basically accuse all of fandom of being pedophiles
have apparently been heard. They promised a post tonight. Based on previous timescale issues around here -- I'll put $5 on Wednesday myself.
You might also want to know that when users get TOS'ed it seems that
that any evidence they ever existed, including comments they left in other people's journals, are nuked as well.
