Darlings, I want, very badly, a black or grey sweater-vest that will look awesome over a dress shirt and tie. I should just go to the Macy's boys department again, shouldn't I? Because everything I find cut for women is too "look at my boobs" and not at all what I'm envisioning.
Did the New York Times really just headline this men's fashion story The Chic of Araby? Of course they did. Oi. I like some of the looks and there's stuff to work with there, but .... do we need to have another chat about Orientalism? *sigh*
I've mostly been ignoring what's going on with The Casimir Effect (of interest to Torchwood fen since it's GDL's current project), because I've enough problems keeping track of my own stuff, but the funding model is both interesting and rational although also the sort of thing that I think causes controversy in some parts of fandom and is also potentially interesting in terms of what type of ownership audiences feel they have or should have of creative projects. Anyway, firefly_124 has an update on the current state of affairs. I was amused by the "anti-noodle fund" aspect of things.
My copy of Idol Musings came last night. It was sort of interesting to see it in text -- because many of these pieces work differently off-line than on. For one, what we think of as a "long" LJ entry is much shorter in text. For another, I think the editor did a really good job with her selections -- there wer very few of the types of pieces I often hated throughout my participating in LJ Idol, and I thought as a collection that removed the time and competition element they created a moving portrayal of why people engage with social media that's more like LJ and less like Facebook. I also got a huge kick out of (and experienced a bit of chagrin at) seeing my Australia piece in print and was also impressed with myself for "This Native Tongue That Came From Bankers."
At work being constructive now. Just for a few hours. Then I'm going to go home and try to cook a relatively proper meal. The degree of bachelor laziness I've been engaging in with Patty away is a bit too awful to mention, and eating real food on an appropriate schedule would kinda be a good idea about now. Tonight I'll watch some Whoniverse stuff. Tomorrow morning I'll go to Costco. Meanwhile, on Monday I have to call Delta, because I've somehow wound up with two different frequent flyer numbers from them, both of which are accruing points, and that needs to be consolidated with the London trip.
