Surprise night-shift yesterday. 3pm - 5am. I'm hoping I'm clear of all that now. Misery.
I AM BUSY FOREVER. Plan: finish Sherlock statistical stuff this week, write first draft this weekend, finish over next week. Then: to all Whoniverse statistical stuff (which isn't as granular for this paper); noodle draft structure at Gally (I'm not even kidding -- let's have drunk academia at LobbyCon) and fix up over the two weeks that I get back. Bang bang. Then everything is in before its respective deadlines. SOMEHOW.
I've sort of used a collection of random filters here to talk about the book Kali and I are working on once or twice, but it's not an effective filter really. Since there are 1,300 of you, saying you want to be on that filter isn't a guarantee, but if you're interested let me know -- as there are definitely people who I know that I haven't put on it because maybe they don't care and I have issues or whatever? No excerpts for now probably, because we're being relatively deliberate about pre-readers (our cheerleaders) and then who we want to be our first critical readers (we haven't told you yet, but we do want you). But sometimes I just need to noodle aloud about the process and the world. This is, in sort, not the sort of fantasy novel where you go "I want to live there!" It's the sort of fantasy novel that after you stop longing for the all the beauty in it you go, "shit, I already live here, and it's a terrible place." INCOHERENCE IS INCOHERENT.
All I can do right now it seems is think about LA. It will be warmer. There is In-and-Out Burger. I will be threatened by a Dalek. Will get copies of antho I"m in. Silly, silly times with some of my favorite people who I rarely see. Some biz excitement. Mostly, though, In-and-Out burger.
ETA: I HAVE A VERY IMPORTANT LOS ANGELES QUESTION. Since I'm leaving the bubble this year -- are there See's Candies shops in LA where you can choose your own mix as opposed to grabbing the pre-packaged boxes?
Also, I just found this fic in wordstrings's series. This. This exact thing. DON'T MAKE ME IDENTIFY WITH SHERLOCK, PEOPLE. It would be a bit not good. I work hard not to have to go there.
