LfT

I cannot stop with the death/mourning stuff and fandom.

I really need to write a book.

Commenting here so I can use this icon. Luminosity. Yes. That is the exact right word. Thank you.

And it's very intentional. Look at how they shot "Original Songs" (and how they light Kurt in general). It's way over-lit, often, especially when Blaine has that moment about Kurt during "Blackbird." (also Pav's burial is lit weirdly). It is the word not because I like the word, but because that's where the show points us.

I wonder if this is a phenomenon with Gossip Girl or 90210 or other high school shows that play a bit darker than Glee - it's not just about high school, but about that musical sensibility.

I think part of what drew me to Klaine's arc in general, and what makes me write Blaine a bit more quiet and sad, is that there's this optimistic musical worldview in Glee covering a lot of underlying darkness - a lot of the characters will never leave Lima, they'll get stuck in the same loop that Will and his ex-wife and even Sue got caught in, or they won't achieve the dreams that high school instills in you, or someone like Kurt will have to fight forever to be who he is but in a less intense and more adult way. We get hints of that in the narrative but really a lot of it is subtextual (and USED to be intentional, no idea what Glee thinks it's doing with its own tone now). Dalton's arc IMO kind of started with that tone altogether, there were a lot of subtler things going on and you didn't always know what everyone else was thinking. (Canniblaine's partly that subdued WASP-y prep school thing and how Blaine's wise owl thing was so deeply performative, we had NO idea who he was at first and didn't get that lighter side until later).

Anyway, you couple these really well-drawn characters with what a glitterbomb is going on around them, then add those hints of deeper things (especially with a character like Kurt that often plays more serious), it's almost asking to be shaken up. There's a lot of "and then the zombies invade" darkfic circling around too.

Cannblaine is hands down the weirdest thing I have EVER encountered in fandom, even if, god help me, it makes sense (as much as fandom does). question: was that around pre-"Animal" -- if so that's even funnier.

And yeah, I think I may have to spend a chunk of my life reading 90210 fanfic now just to answer the question.

I'm hoping to finish the next in my fic series tonight while waiting for Patty at the airport.

Also? My friend Marci and I just totally got tickets for Glee Live

[identity profile] weyrdchic.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely pre-Animal, like I think it was after Special Education but before the Christmas episode even. It was requested on the kink meme and someone posted it to the comm and was like "this fandom is too fluffy, have some trauma" and we were just like "LOL THANK YOU WE LOVE YOU ACTUALLY. TIME FOR AN IN-JOKE, WORLD."

...you lucky lucky person oh my god how dare you. I want to go nothing ever comes to Florida oh god.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Because you know "Animal" actually has the line with "cannibal" in it, right? SO FUNNY.

I am so excited! It will be the dorkiest thing I have ever done possibly, and that is saying something too. We got kinda fantastically good seats too. WHAT WILL I WEAR?

[identity profile] weyrdchic.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
We know, omg, we were all dying laughing in between debates about whether it would have on-screen context (it didn't, such perfect line breaks in the full recorded song for it too D:). It was a fantastic, fantastic day when that song leaked.

LOL I love how you're asking that. Uhm. WEAR A WARBLER SHIRT FROM WISESHOT. Or cosplay as Blaine. Or BOTH and have the Warbler shirt under a peacoat or something!

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
At minimum there will be a warbler t-shirt. I'm trying to grok how dorktastic the rest of the fan culture is about the OMG I REALLY REALLY WANT TO cosplay thing.

[identity profile] weyrdchic.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
We've definitely had some Kurt crossplaying posted to the comm and at least one Warbler crossplay, it's rare but we've loved it. Also there have been Pavarotti stuffed toys with fake phones drawn on cardstock to tweet on. Srsly, we will embrace your ridic, it's Glee. There's a lot of teenagers around being generally lulzy.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
And Marci has no shame, which always helps.

Because other than needing to put piping on my old school blazer and changing the crest out, I kinda don't even need to go shopping. That's the terrifying part.

And did you see we totally found that red and grey scarf the other day in the kurt_blaine forum?

[identity profile] weyrdchic.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I did! Sort of freaking epic. And for like $5? If I was in a scarf-weather type place...

I want an official Dalton blazer though. Like I would set money aside for that thing. I'm hugely overweight so it'd be an utter waste of money until I was at a size where I knew I could at least hover and continue to wear it without yo-yoing, but..

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I would too -- it's always me and the coats in fandom. I definitely own some stuff I can abuse suitably (and really, my old Hewitt jacket? So on point), and I've already found reproductions of the crest online.

Yeah, the scarf was $4.97 and shipping was twice that. I'm hoping it gets here before I got to Boston on Wednesday morning, because that would be too sweet.

Weirder than Sheppard and McKay as Girl Scout Cookies in Love?

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I just... I don't even.

OH FANDOM.

[identity profile] rufus.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
there's also some epic Snape/Lupin in which I think Snape is an eggplant and Lupin is a . . . carrot? maybe? It's been a while since I read it.

[identity profile] bethynyc.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
The creativity of fandom is boundless and a little scary.

[identity profile] rufus.livejournal.com 2011-04-11 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
heh! It was part of some kind of 30 day challenge in the main Lupin-Snape community some years ago, as best I can recollect. The purpose of the fic was, I think, something about them making stew. Against all odds, it was actually smoking hot.

ETA: I was wrong, it was part of the Lusty Month of May at [livejournal.com profile] pervy_werewolf! That comm is locked down now, but the fic is here if you're a member or willing to become one.

just THINKING of that seriously made my whole fucking day bearable.
thank you.

awww. I'm glad i could be helpful in that way. The story itself is somewhere in a 30 day challenge that was run in the main Lupin-Snape community a couple of years ago. I really wish I could remember the author for you. I have a terrible feeling I have her on my flist, too, possibly because that story was so delightful.
