Patty and I are sort of looking at moving when our lease is up at the end of October.

The problem is that I will probably be out of the country around the first week of October, which means if we're doing this, we want to get it solved and locked in during the (late) summer.

So, we're putting the word out on what we're looking for if anyone has leads:

- 2 bedrooms (or large 1bedroom, but we really need to have at least one office room... so hey, 3 bedroom works too if at all viable)
- Outdoor space (terrace, shared brownstone garden, etc.) is a bonus that's close to a requirement
- Ditto laundry in building
- Bathroom must have bathtub
- Cats must be okay
- Good light
- Brooklyn preferred (near trains that are not Brooklyn-Queens only, not only on the J/M/Z or the L, near trains that got to the west side of Manhattan preferably).
- Also interested in Upper Manhattan on the west side if close to trains.
- We pay 1.5K now; we'd like to keep it under 2K; might be willing to stretch it to $2,100 for something awesome
- 2 year lease desired

(yes, it was a big day around here yesterday).

So I am signing a lease tomorrow...with the chillest landlord ever. He didn't credit check, the reference he asked for was the tenant who recommended him to us..

It's up in Harlem (141 and Riverside) but he also has other buildings. Let me know if you want the #.

I also have a friend who is a broker and she showed us some awesome places (though not quite as awesome as our new place with 2 bedrooms, a huge dining room/office/library, eat-in kitchen and laundry/elevator) and also works in BK AND is the least pushy person ever. So I can pass her info on if you need it too!

Good luck! I just went through the whole looking process so I feel for you.

I would suggest Sunset Park near the N and the R trains (4th/5th Avenues). The trip to Manhattan still stuns me with its speed and convenience almost two years after leaving Park Slope, Brooklyn. I thought I loved Park Slope but it was MUCH more expensive and we needed more room. The commute to Manhattan had always been less than ideal from Park Slope--have to admit I still go back there to shop and hang out. The downside of Sunset Park is its lack of great restaurants, bookstores or grocery stores within walking distance of my apartment. Bayridge, which is a hop and a skip away, does have all that. The best part of Sunset Park, besides the fabulous subway commute, is that you could easily meet your rent and space requirement in a beautifully maintained apartment.

We used Craig's list to find a place in Sunset Park. No broker fee.

Random comment is random, but I'm not sure if you got my PM - I'm around in NYC tomorrow if you still wanna meet up at some point. If not, it's totally fine. Shouldn't be too hard to amuse myself. :P
