geek question

I've an old clamshell iBook running OS9.x -- is it possible to upgrade that to OSX or am I shit out of luck?

It can be done. Of course, you have to have a more sizable chunk of RAM and free HD space to run OS X than 9. Just a thought. You can AIM or email me if you have further questions.

Basically I want an iPod, and it needs OSX to work, and obviously I'm not investing in a new laptop over such a thing.

Ah... That means upgrading all of your apps and everything. You may need more RAM as well.

I have seen people selling the 1st and 2nd generation iPods on eBay. Those work with OS 9.

Is thre any major difference between the 1st /2nd gen and the current ones? I'd like one but in reality $500 is rich for my blood atm.

The main difference is the size and storage capacity.

The first gen had an analog (moving parts) scroll wheel and buttons. Plus, it was only 5 gigabytes.

The second gen had the current digital scroll wheel/buttons and came in more storage sizes (10, 20 gig). The dock connector had not been introduced yet.

If you want to upgrade to Panther, I'll sell you my disks dirt cheap. People love OS 10.3, but it made my Mac violently ill.
