Got paid today. Am one paycheck behind.

Am seeing Vanity Fair at 9:15.

Have started on the Halloween madness, although current crackpot idea is somewhat dependent on the assistance of my father (of all things), so we'll see. I'm working on cooking up a plan B. I am such a costume whore. And like Vanity Fair is going to help?

Got good news at work about my vacation days, alleviating a certain degree of financial stress about Sydney. And now there's a Sydney Craigslist too, which should help on the finding a place front.

Have a mosquito bite in my navel. Hate mosquitos. Muchly.

Some idiot on the street told me I better eat more if I want him to eat me. Okay, number one, don't talk to women you don't know about their pussies. Number two, don't talk to women you don't know about their eating habits. Number three, just don't talk to me, at all, okay? Okay.

NYC feels so much better now that the RNC is over. People, and the city, are breathing again.

Feel like I should go to a local playground and make myself climb on the jungle gym to get used to the fact that on Tuesday I once again have to face the reality that Sham is tall.

Doing two days of background at some live event next week, which is good mainly because it's after work hours, so I'll pick up a bit of extra money, although one day I'll be coming right from the stables and that's sort of gross.

Finally starting to see some definition in my arms.

Overall, I'm pretty happy. I'm doing work, I'm getting work, I'm challenging myself and this is a pretty good life to have signed up for.

I _have_ to put in a headshot reorder on Monday, I didn't realize how low I was getting. Eek.

I know Sydney. It's full of cheap backpacker places, which offer awful dorm rooms that you don't want to stay in, but some of them also offer quite serviceable single rooms. Craigslist probably better, but as backup.

I could recommend particular regions of the city, but I forget why you're going there exactly (which will influence where you want to stay).

I'm going to be studying at NIDA for three weeks, so anything that is either close by or not unbearably long via public transit is the goal.

Somewhere hip/not touristy would be good. And I don't totally grok the situation with the beach in relationship to everything else yet, but I'm really into swimming, so somewhere near or where public transit can get me to the water too is good.

OK. Well, Sydney is built around a fjord (they call it a bay, but it's really a fjord) which opens to the east. The downtown is on the south side of the fjord. The university of NSW, which I gather includes NIDA, are further south yet, according to the Net, and a bit east, in an area not well served by the CityRail system.

This means that you probably shouldn't stay in Manly, which I otherwise would have suggested, or anywhere else in North Sydney, across the fjord. The southern beaches, Bondi and Tamarama (sic?) and Coogee, are about 3-4km (aka 30-40 minutes' walk) east of UNSW. They too are not well (actually, at all) served by CityRail.

You might plausibly stay in or around Coogee proper, walking distance from the beach, and then take a bus to UNSW (according to this (http://www.sta.nsw.gov.au/commonpdfs/sta/bus/map/UNSW-Kensington-feb03map.pdf) (can you tell I'm procrastinating?), there's a direct bus.)

You could also stay around Bondi Junction with all the Kiwis; then you'd be a short bus ride to the beaches, a short bus ride to NSW, and on a spur of the CityRail. I'd probably go with this option.

Sydney's pretty sprawling, so be careful. Location is important.

Thank you... this confirms a lot of my instincts (mainly that buses, and not the rail were going to be the order of the day), and that Bondi Junction was one of the likely options. (NIDA is apparently across the street from UNSW, as they have some sort of communal dorm arrangement, that I feel too old and adventurous to deal with).

Why do all the Kiwis stay in Bondi Junction?

I think it's just one of those things.

I just wanted to comment on your pics before but got caught up in this very busy life. I think they are beautiful. Excellent photographer too.
