Other than little niggly purchases (like snacks for the airplane), I made my last purchase of a thing I felt I really needed for the trip -- which was a very dressy dress, that was also somewhat out of the vein that my dressy dresses tend to be -- which is to say in the mode of sleek and icequeen. That somehow seemed wrong for Oz and just the whole spirit of the thing.

It's a dark red, calf length dress in a light crepe with satin detailing. The neckline is very plunging (bra prohibitive), and more plunging than I'd generally wear, because I'm not busty and that sort of thing doesn't tend to work for me, but somehow it does here. The bottom of the dress is that faux shredder kerchief sort of thing that's so in right now. Basically, the whole thing is all about my posture -- whether it's girlist or powerful and it's fun and grownup without being cold. I had wanted to get it in a great green-blue they had, but it wasn't in my size, and the green was too drab and black is just so ordinary.

So I've something to wear to the opera, and more importantly, I'm prepared. I don't know what I'm prepared for, but that part doesn't matter, because really, you just never, ever know when your wardrobe is going to have to rise to an occassion (says the woman who spent one year of college on a mission to dine at embassies, and did, by placing personal ads and only going on the dates that involved stuff like going to embassies).

Regency class was especially physically gruelling today, although mentally easier than a lot of past ones. We did a cotillion that isn't that hard (except when it comes to stamina), and brushed up on a Swedish dance (which isn't Swedish) and a few other random things and of course the dreaded waltzes.

I had wanted to get my hair cut today because the way I grew it out for my Halloween costume, while funny (and looks more as it should have now than it did in October) and perhaps oddly sweet, has become uncontrollably annoying to me. But I didn't get to the haircut place in time, and it's going to have to wait until next weekend. Feh.
