Well, other than strike tomorrow, I have survived Broadway Under the Stars.

In the process, I've made some good connections, discovered bizarre trivia about the contents of certain celebrity riders, got to meet, and in a few cases hang out with, some very cool performers, received a couple of unusual compliments, worked with some tech folks I really respect and finally got just a bit better at seeing through certain behavior that normally punches my buttons.

I've also 8 billion mosquito bites, two the size of my fist. If anyone has tips for reducing the swelling on them, please let me know, as I'm doing some photography stuff on Thursday, and this could be a problem.

The concert itself was great. It seems stunning with the events of the last year that I've never actually heard the love theme from Romeo and Juliet before, but apparently I hadn't. Um, it's really really good. It also seems stunning that the plot of Romeo and Juliet had to be explained to someone in my presence this evening, but so it goes.

Also, there was a fantastic moment of a 16-year-old girl singing On My Own from Les Miserables, without being precious about it. The best part was she's just a high school student who through an audition process of schools putting on the show, got to perform in the closing performance of the show, and then got invited to do this. She doesn't have an agent or anything yet, but she's really good, and an incredibly lovely person. She was practically in tears when she went out there tonight -- I mean, that's a hell of a crowd, and it was really interesting watching whatever her personal connection is to that song (and there obviously is one), snap her focus into place. Quite moving.

cold water or ice will bring down some of the itching and swelling, but I don't know if it will be enough. Benadryl or similar will also help the itching. I *think* that most of what's causing the swelling (allergic reaction) is what also causes the itching; I'd recommend cold water or ice on the worst of them, antihistamines and aspirin (which reduces swelling and thins blood somewhat, and most itchy bug bites contain a coagulant). Since I've fled from states with really big mosquitoes I've gotten by with lots of cold water applied to bites ASAP.
