CVS is now selling disposeable DV recorders. One time use, good for just 20-minutes of material at an eh resolution. This is dumb, but the very limitation of the format sort of turns me on, and I sort of want to come up with a little project for one.

How about a pseudo documentary piece using multiple cameras? I'm thinking something that explores differing viewpoints on the "truth" of an incident (like a car crash) from each individuals point of view - each view true in its own way, but through its own (literal and figurative) lens. Kinda like Kurosawa's "Rashomon", but sans-samurai, and even less liner (perhaps).

Now that I'm thinking of it, if you don't develop it, I will :-)

er . . . meant to type "less linear"

Oh... hey, and then because the image size is small (it's meant for computer display) they could be edited into a multi-paneled thing in places, so rto like some ofthe stuff that goes on in Pillow Book.

Oh fuck.

Ooooh!

How about this - shoot it mainly B&W, but then overlay each of three POV's with a light primary color filter. Then, as POV's agree, combine, and diverge, the color changes.

Now I'm talkin' crazy talk.

Not seen Pillow Book - top o' the Netflix queue for you!

The thing shoots color only, but that's easy to strip in editing.

FYI, Pillowbook is Peter Greenway and involves nudity, writing on people and skinning them. Just, so you know and stuff. I doubt this will bother you, but I didn't want you to be blindsided.

Also, these cameras are small... the ability to mount them, perhaps inobtrusively on an actor also occurs.

It certainly sounds liek it would be easy enough to get principle shooting done, then experiment with what wackiness works, and what doesn't in editing. I'm off to lunch with my spice . . . I shall mull this over further . . .

Very amusing! I just recently started a script for a movie detailing a short lived affair in that very style! :)

So, how expensive are these things?

$30 per camera, and then $13 per camera to transwer to DVD, must be done at CVS, or so they claim.

Ah, well my handy little Kodak is 6.1 resolution and will hold up to 80 minutes of film, which I can then dump to my computer, edit and burn to DVD. Seems cheaper to buy a camera that can do it than these. (Especially if you were going to film from multiple and merge the result.)

Yeah, i think the main benefit of these is if you want to have multiple cameras going simultaneous, and/or wantedto attach them to odd places (catcam!).

Ah, yes, I could see that. Of course, I don't think anything my cat does is quite $43 worth of exciting. :)

Agreed. Although mine have a scam involving cooperating to deactivate the cable modem and invading my room when I come downstairs to fix it. It's like evolution in action.

As you note, $30 for the hardware and ~$12 or so for processing, with CVS recycling (and reselling) the camera afterward. Wouldn't you know, there would appear to be a hardcore contingent of geeks out there who are actively reverse engineering the unit to allow the video to be transferred to a computer and the camera to be reused. FWIW.

Cheers...
