Also courtesy Mirabai, but I don't know why I can't stop listening to it, actually I do, but it's odd and convoluted:

You just Haven't Earned It Yet, Kirsty MacColl version

Ah, Kirsty.

I first heard her in 1984. "He's on the beach." I looked for that song for 17 years before I found it.

Yes! I knew that one was a gamble, 'cause Kate said the Smiths might have unpleasant associations, but I thought that MacColl's cover was so perfect in any number of ways. Glad to hear it worked.

The other one with a question mark over it was "You Miss The Point Completely, I Get The Point Exactly" (which was stuck in my head for the better part of yesterday). I'm curious to hear how it struck you. Thoughts?

(Also "The Two Sides of Monsieur Valentine", but that's more of a style thing.)

I really like the Smiths actually, but it was still nice to have a perkier thing than Morrissey going on there.

The Two Sides of Monsieur Valentine was actually the song that decided to crawl into my lap today. Evil little thing.

I'm still trying to decide what it is I think about Completely/Exactly but will let you know.

Back to the subject of Track 2 -- does everything by that band sound like that? Because if so I may need to buy a CD.

1: Actually, if Completely/Exactly isn't a fruitful track to go down, listen to Hackensack and tell me what you think of that instead. It's a song I had to listen to several times before it started punching me in the kidneys, and for all I know, you may be immune to it, as someone who's in the process of freeing herself from that particular nightmare. Completely/Exactly is fun as a screed anthem; it troubled me because it seemed to be a good one, but not one that matched my own personal brand of bile. I can't seem to sing along to it, so I thought I'd try to find someone who could. If it ain't you, no worries. Hackensack, though... I dunno. You + It = Bas-relief.

2: In his coat and his boots and his blackheart machine!

3: Hard to say. I've got four songs of theirs from a couple samplers, but only one other besides Raaven that I really love. The other two are ok but not as much my thing, and they're all in markedly different styles. So I dunno. I have heard pretty good reports about them from other sources, though. I bet you anything Tower has a selection. I am curious, so I'd even go in with you if you want -- I'll pay half and rip it and you can keep the CD?
