It did not take this long after either Hurricane Andrew or the LA riots of '92 to kick the federal government into action. This is either a political move or (equally likely in my opinion) proof of the government's incompetence and lack of concern for its citizens. Under that scenario, Shrub didn't visit until now, because the supplies weren't there, and so going there would make him look bad. Evil or incompetent, this administration is still a blight upon the nation.
In some defense of what is happening (and I think where I stand is clear) the logistics of New Orleans _were_ much more complex than Andrew, even before the delays made them even more insane.
And it's not like they didn't have enough warning that things were gonna be bad there either. And perhaps things are worse than they expected. So yes, it could be more than coincidence, it could also be "uh oh Bush is coming, get busy" and way to get the Feds off their lead duffs. and like any administration, making political hay out of a tragedy is despicable. We've see a lot of that over the last decade or so.
