Tourist dad: I wonder if they'll have New Orleans fixed for Mardi Gras.
Pre-teen tourist girl: Maybe they could put all the people in the Gaza Strip? Where is the Gaza strip anyway?
Me: *death glare*
Dad: In the Mediterranean.
Girl: Why are the Jews giving it up?
Dad: They're giving it back to (he pauses here desperately looking for the name)... the Palestinians.
Girl: Why do the Jews get kicked out of everywhere? Why don't they have a place to live?
Dad: They live in Israel.
Girl: And Long Island, right?
Me: *death glare*
Dad: Well there can be Jews everywhere.
Girl: Maybe they should go to Russia.
Dad: I don't know if that's a good idea.
Girl: Where are they going to put New Orleans now?

Oh jesus.

There are so many things wrong with this that I don't know where to start.

I remember going to a rock concert shortly after 9/11, which was surprisingly not canceled. One of the best moments was when the lead singer stood up and said, paraphrased, "Look, I know things are bad right now and everyone's unhappy, but we can't let them destroy us or take all of the joy out of our lives."

I hope they still manage to have Mardi Gras, somehow. It's such an icon of their city, and it shouldn't be taken away from them.

The girl was 11 or 12, but dressed like a slutty 15-year-old

LOL gsa ags?

SAG!

Screen Actors Guild I think?

I'm a little slow and the other day or week you said you needed a third waiver and I asked someone else what that stood for.

I'm very good at missing the obvious.

Informational note: I heard earlier this evening that the part of New Orleans primarily used for Mardi Gras is actually at higher elevation than most, and therefore not as impacted by the flood. (I forget quite what percentage of the city is submerged in water, obviously a lot, but I don't think it's all of it.) This, if accurate, is good news, since of course New Orleans relies quite heavily on tourism money, both from Mardi Gras and from Jazz Festivals.

Yeah, that's true, but there are fired there and it's a city, not a theme park.
