So we have this router.
we got it hooke dup, and I'm, obviously, online.

When I log into the router it says Megan is logged into it too, but from her computer, despite saying she has an excellent signal, she cna't go anywhere. The troubleshooting guide seems to indicate she has tird party firewall software installed, but if she does she has no idea what (her Macaffee stuff is expired).

So what the hell are we looking for to get her online. The router, if it matters is a Belkin G.

This is a PC right?

I'm guessing that you have uninstalled the expired s/w?
There could still be signs of it in the registry left over from deinstallation and that could be what your new firewall s/w is seeing. So you probably need to clean your registry off all things McAfee.
Good Luck.

Base on my wireless router experiences, you will need the specified jedi to fix it. I usually just cuss until it starts working again. If she runs "ipconfig" does she have an ip?

Sometimes an IP mismatch can look like a firewall. What IP address does the router give her, and what IP address does she see for herself on her computer? Obviously, they have to match. If they don't, you can sometimes brute-force her computer into accepting that IP address, which is not the best solution, but it works.

And make sure her port settings are defaults. Copy yours if need be.

Do both of your computers think they have the same IP address?

(Sorry I don't have any more ideas. Network administration sucks. In the meantime, contemplate Bjarne Stroustrup's words of wisdom: "People used to say that some day, a computer would be as easy to use as a telephone. That day has arrived, because I can no longer use my telephone.")

Hardcore Techie here!

Okee - Question time.
1. What operating system is Megan running?
2. What are the IP addresses of the two machines? (If you don't know how to find this, let me know the OS of your machine as well and I can give instructions.
3. I'm guessing Wireless network?

Let's start with those and we can go from there.

Windows XP is a bitch when it comes to wireless networking. The default setting for the built-in firewall is Stubborn Two-Year-Old.

This site (http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Windows_XP/) may have helpful things to say.

If you are still having trouble, lunchtime suggestion was to check NetBios settings because they can report as firewall issues. Can megan see you?
