ETA: Actually, follow the link and then follow the link to the Forbes piece, which is a decent length. Most amusing? Even Forbes thinks Cissy and Severus are doing it.

ETA2: Second most amusing thing? The Forbes link inviting you to track news about this industry. Which industry is that, exactly? crack!fic?

The more I hang around fanfic types, the more reflections I see of fanfic ideas in so-called "normal" media. Like when they started playing with the subtext on Xena.

Of course quite a bit of it is certainly that you people have warped my brain. I went to see ROTK with some of my coworkers, and spent a good part of it thinking, "Must not giggle at Sam/Frodo (or Aragorn/Legolas) subtext, because then I'd have to explain myself to people I have to work with."

Also, more and more fanfic is really becoming an accepted thing, whether we're talking about creations like Wicked or the fact that JKR reads the stuff (as evidenced, I'm convinced, by large chunks of Book 5 and smaller chunks of Book 6).

And especially not having read the books, I really had cause to wonder in PoA. I was pretty much sitting in the theater thinking, "They've totally given in to the slashers!" Repeat viewings have not really dissuaded me from that opinion.

They've _totally_ given in to the slashers. To the point that, I think even slashers who are book loyalists were like "what the fuck?" The big test of that theory will be movie 5 (in which a pivotal chapter is straight out of like at least 2 dozen Snape/Harry fics).
