I am sick the fuck to death of people hurting my city (that's you this week, TWU Local 100).

I am sick the fuck to death of people thinking they get to talk shit about my city because it's not to their taste and crap is going on (everyone, anywhere else gloating over us godless heathens suffering).

And tourists, you shut the fuck up! I don't care if walking the ten blocks between your hotel isn't a hardship for you and you don't understand what we're so upset about. I'm walking miles a day and I have one of the easy commutes. This isn't about you, and you don't get a right to say we're complaining unreasonably, especially when you're walking 6 across and blocking the sideswalks we're pounding all day.

Also, people who say Guiliani would have never let this happen -- news for you, the mayor and the City of New York, don't have a tremendous say in the transit situation here.

Also, MTA, fuck you for being incompetant at nearly everything.

I heard of some labor action in Australia(?) where the transit workers didn't stop working; they just stopped collecting fares. The Wobblies call this an "on-the-house strike".

I don't understand why the TWU didn't do something similar; it would have been no more illegal than the current action, it would have pissed off the MTA management just as much, and it would not have annoyed so many of the locals.

Because of the way the subway system is designed, most peopele would have to actively break the law to not pay a fare, even if workers were trying not to collect it -- so it wouldn't have worked. Everything is highly automated.
