We've had this convo before, about how HRC is lame. They badger me a billion times a day to renew my membership, to point that I sort of went off on them a few days ago (which was funny). At any rate, I feel like I should be putting my $35 or whatever a year towards some group fighting the legislative fight on queer issues, so who do you people support?

The HRC had a bad history with bi and trans issues, certainly back when I was paying more attention, and although I'm no longer an active bi activist, I haven't heard that they've gotten their act together. I usually give to local legislation groups, GLAAD, and the ACLU (who support queer rights under law). There is, sadly, no large national legislation-advocacy group which is fully supportive of and inclusive of bi and trans needs. (To my rusty knowledge.)

If it makes you feel any better, [that organization] is just as kreppy to their vendors...?

I parted ways with HRC after they "disinvited" Margaret Cho from an event during the DNC in 2004 because she was too raunchy. Gods forbid we should, you know, hire a comedian known for talking about sex--she might offend someone!"

Plus, as someone pointed out, the HRC is an organization that can't even use the word "gay" in their name.
