Wrt saving money to plan for retirement, that's something to do when one is far older than either of us. I've always believed in worrying about the far future then and not now. Then again, my general about money and expenses (and life in general) comes from an Alastair Crowley quotes (gods help me, I'm paraphrasing Crowley) about doing prosperity spells: If you are almost broke when you do the spell, after yo do it go and spend your last bit of money on something that you would really enjoy and trust that the world and your magick will provide.
IME, this philosophy applies to far more than just finances - I've found that the best way to live my life is to discover what I really want, go after it, regardless of how foolish it seems and then trust that my luck and the world in general will help me avoid disaster.
