HP trivia question

Does anyone know the actual date Snape went to Dumbledore to, presumably, turn spy. I know we know "after Harry's parents died," but is there an actual date? I've just had a crackpot theory occur to me, and I need to know if cannon contradicts it, which I'm almost sure it doesn't.

Wasn't there something about the Prophecy he overheard, in HBP? As in "he overheard part of it and took it to Voldy, but relented aka freaked out when he found out just who and what it meant?"

I still don't have a copy of HBP (damn slow paperback released, come on, spare my arthritic hands!) so I can't check that. But it would make sense that Snape found out about it either a)when they died or b) before their actual deaths, but not in time to prevent said deaths because of the Wormtail business - hey, wait, how come Snape didn't know Wormy was a traitor before that? Argh. Anyway, that's the only specific reference I recall.

Looking forward to said crackpot theory's debut.

I also need to reread the text of the prophecy we have before I share this. It's so insane, but it's so good if I can't find anything in cannon to contradict it.
