I have largely avoided the petition LJ about this and that thing, because really, I write my thing, I don't use most of the features, and, as such, I don't entirely care. Something about this push towards LJ being more youth oriented (how could it be more) and this sister service for adults, VOX, has tipped me right over the edge. Maybe it's the fact that there's no way to be ad-free on VOX, or maybe it's just the screaming irony of the name for me (for all of those familiar with the online community that must not be named).

Fuckity fuck fuck. I'm not jumping the ship yet, or maybe at all, but I'd sure like to not have to think about doing so say six months down the road. I've been here under this account alone for years. I was an early adopter in my previous identity here. Fuck this.

So there's this petition over here: http://mother.livejournal.com/962238.html
ETA: Because the petition has now received over 5000 comment signatures, please go to the Pt. 2 version of the petition here: http://mother.livejournal.com/965721.html to sign it.

And [livejournal.com profile] rahalia sums it all up nicely over here: http://rahalia-cat.livejournal.com/1182821.html?view=6071909

peachy keen.

I can't say I'm suprised by SixApart trying to reposition LJ as a more youth oriented site. I'm sure they just looked at whatever user stats they have access to and found that GenX made up about 2% of their user base and 95% of their unique content. So it would suit them to scrape that population off onto another website.

In terms of WordPress... yes, you can upload photos or use flickr for hosting. Its ok. I'd even suggest getting a moveable type install (plus every spam filter you can get your hands on) for your writing if you want to make it more google friendly (and you have server space which I'm sure someone will loan you). Google loves MT something fierce.

Otherwise I'm of the same opinion of LJ as you. I have a social network that's over 5 years old. Beyond that I couldn't care less as I ignore 99% of the users and 75% of the features.

However I also have a RSS reader so I can keep up with folks if they jump ship.

I've had this journal for almost 5 years now, and I'll be damned if I'm going to sit here while LiveJournal starts catering to the vile mindsets and mispellings of the self-centered youth population today. I refuse to leave, and I refuse to bend to this overall crap.

See, if I were really cool I'd have some sort of victory/call to arms song playing here. I think I'm going to have to settle for Journey. Bastards.

Since I only have an LJ account for the purpose of reading/commenting in other people's journals, and put all my own stuff on a blog hosted separately, I'm not sure I have standing to complain about whatever LJ's plans for the future are.

But my first reaction on seeing the VOX sample was "hey, look! Another Blogspot! Just what the world needs! Like another pair of eyebrows!"

Just leave me a forwarding URL if you jump ship...

Gaaaah. And we just renewed our paid memberships this weekend. I don't want MySpace; I have an account there only because a few people (including kinfolk) have accounts there, but I never go there voluntarily.
