If you have time sometime, I'd love to hear what you think of AC (and if you've already posted about it and I've somehow spaced it or missed it, just point me in the right direction if it's not too much trouble. I do remember some discussion of particular pieces, but not of AC overall). I've been thinking of doing something over there, but haven't been certain if I should take the plunge or not (not that it's really much of a plunge, but you know what I mean).

In terms of it being easy to deal with, writing about what you want and getting paid promptly, it's fantastic.

To the extent that there is a community amongst those who write there (which you can choose to easily avoid) it's having some serious growing pains. I'm one of the bad guy flavours of the month for saying it like it is and being the officious little snit I can be. I got a called a kindergarten teacher yesterday!

Offers on articles may seem low at first ($3 - $8), but once you've been writing there for a bit they jump into the $10 - $15 range pretty easily. And it's rare that anything I write takes me more than 30 minutes, so the ROI is cool. I've also received some freelance writing gigs because of my content on the site. Certainly, I can't thnk of any reason not to do it.

If you do sign up, please use my referral link, as we do get a small bonus for every five writers who get paid for articles we sign up: http://www.associatedcontent.com/join.html?refer=9740

I will remember the link, because I've been considering it.

Hope you don't mind, but I used your referral link as I am in serious need of funds (yay doctor bills!) and I've noticed a lack of guinea pig articles. ;)

Excellent. Your first bigs will probably be low, but keep writing and they go up. use textalyser.net to analyzer your articles for keywords. A density of key words (like guinea pigs) should be at least 1% and is much better paid if over 2.5% -- so people can search and find your articles.

Out of curiosity, do you think that exclusive is better than not? I mean, it seems clear that the money will be better for exclusives, I guess I'm just wondering about the whole "owning-your-work-is-always-better" thing.

Most of these things I couldn't possibly imagine selling in any other context though, so I mostly don't worry about it. My non-exclusive stuff (and you do get paid less for it in general) is almost all stuff repurposed from older things I've written for other sites.
