Worked on a movie all day shooting at the main NYPL with the lions and all. Sadly, none of the other actors had ever been there before and didn't know it was open to the public. I, wearing glasses, was made into a librarian. The funniest part however may have been that holding was in the Moonie center.

Two different casting agencies have inquired as to my availability for Thursday -- now if one of them will just book me!

Not a lot else to report other than JKR has said that at least two characters die in Book 7 and that one got an unexpected reprieve. I will assume on all three counts these do not include Voldemort. I think the reprieve is probably Snape, Ron, or Draco, in order of personal feelings of likelihood. For death I think the likeliest candidate for death (other than Snape) is Remus. Poor Remus.

Y'know, Remus has had it pretty rough over the course of oh, I don't know, his whole life. maybe JKR will be nice to him for a change. I'm thinking Minerva might get it though...although she did just kill off a Headmaster. Meh.

Any word on when the book's actually coming out?

No word. She's not done yet. Rumour is somewhere in 2007 -- and personally, I'd guess for Halloween if so.

I think Minerva is safe, because if Minerva dies, there are no adults left. I mean, who can handle the real world? Not Remus -- too wounded; not Snape (if he's alive) -- too crazy; not Hagrid or Flitwick. Without Minerva there is no structure.

And in a way I think if Remus survives, it might be teh worst unkindness of all -- too see everything he's loved and believed in gone. I mean, it's terrible.

Y'know, I didn't think of it that way.

Now watch her throw us all for a loop and knock off Hermione or something.

Today on the bus home I started to wonder about the possibility of Snape dying to save Draco -- he's half roped into it already, but there's a powerful message to the readership in that -- in that he remains ambiguoous, but vaguely noble,, but more importantly, in the face of all the Gryffindor loyalty-rah-rah-rah, it sort of shows that loyalty can have a lot of other weird shapes. I bet if it happens though we'll still never know why he's close to that family in spite of it all (since none of them were years mates).

There should really be a Dummie's Guide to the Harry Potter universe.

I wonder if something happened prior to the first book where Snape owed the Malfoys some sort of blood oath. Regardless of what happens people will bitch, but I think the author's smart enough to end the books the way she knows they have to be ended.

The biggest problem in terms of sorting this out is "Is movie cannon or not?" because the movies give us a basis for "Snape and Lucius Malfoy are friends to some degree or other" in the books, there is no basis for that, so when Narcissa shows up at Snape's door playing the girl card, it's like WTF?!?!?! So WTF in fact, that it rates a hysterical mention in a piece either Forbes or Fortune did on the 10 richest fictional characters. The lucius Malfoy blurb included the note that now that the man was in prison, his wife had been getting certain late night visits from a tall, thin, wizard with greasy black hair. At which point again, everyone went OMGWTF because a business mag was essentially writing fanfic.

Well, A) Props to Forbes. B) I'm curious as to how the movie will handle that whole situation. Narcissa's been such a non-character thus far, and I'm hoping the movies don't portray her as some sort of spineless ninny freaking out because her husband's in the big house instead of a mother who's truly concerned for her son's wellbeing.

I don't hold high hopes for Narcissa's characterization, but then again, until we read book7 we don't know if in JKR's world she is a spineless ninny or manipulating some need in Snape to feel necessary to whatever woman will tolerate him.

JKR and gender roles is a bad scene though.

Maybe what it all boils down to is Snape needing a hug or something...I can just imagine that. This whole nearly decade-long wait for the big climactic end and they all sit around a campfire singing Kumbayah. That right there would be the end of my hope for humanity.

We were discussing yesterday at Pride whether it's possible for readers to be satisfied with the ending. and the truth is, I think we only will be if some mysteries remain, because the solutions (e.g., Snape is a bastard because he loved Lilly) are just so lame sometimes.

I am totally ok with mysteries. My brother (fellow bibliophile) and I were discussing Steven King's Dark Tower series a while back actually, and how it took him something like 20 years between the 3rd and 4th books to be finished. Some people started to think that the 3rd book was the end of the series, and that was some sort of master joke on everyone because it ends in this huge cliffhanger. J and I both decided we would've been ok had King done that.

The same applies here. If Rowling reveals every little minute detail and reason why the characters do what they do, it'll take away a good part of the magic that makes this series so wonderful.

What took you so long?

I had a sheltered childhood.

Well, I'm glad that you were adopted from the shelter before they had to put you to sleep.

It was a close call there. I don't play well with others and they'd made a special note of it.

but . . but . . nooo, not Remus. It can't be, didn't she wish him a happy birthday this year?

*sigh*

she can't, because then I shall have to read acres and acres of Remus and Sirius Reunited in Wizarding Heaven fic. I've seen one already that was actually pretty good, but I flinch at the prospect of weeping angelic Remuses. Remii?

ah well.

M'self I think it'll be Hagrid and McGonagall.

But yes, Snape or Draco for the reprieve, definitely.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. It hurts to even think about it. Please let the unexpected reprieve be my wizard.

Lucius is prety slippery. One imagines he'll make it out just fine. Although one imagines the family cannot survive intact. Somewhere, a Malfoy is going down.

Yeah, it won't be pretty. I've yet to read any good fanfic about Draco in book 6. I would think that has to be an excellent ground to explore whether or not the boy has any morals or sense.

Apparently. For a long time, I was sure it was going to be actually (which I think would be really brave). However, she talks so much lately about how she understands how great the temptation is, that I'd be surprised if it was now.
