This weekend, the Regency tailcoat gets ordered for the ball. As much as it is for the ball, it will, in truth, probably become something of a staple in my regular wardrobe, because I'm like that, as such there are color considerations. I am making white breeches to go with it, as I prefer the look of the early-Regency (later they go black, as do the coats). As such, I need to decide on a color for the coat.

My wife, [livejournal.com profile] faedaughter, is salivating to know from whence you are ordering your tailcoat (while my other wife, [livejournal.com profile] thicknwild, is teasing her for being just as big if not a bigger nerd.

I've been reading Georgette Heyer this week and there are references to a bottle green coat, and who would know if not Miss Heyer?
Hence my vote.

If you make any other color, I think you'll end up making a green one later, so you may as well make the green one first and perhaps spare yourself some trouble later. heh.

I would be less stressed about this if I were making it myself. It's a large investment, so I feel I need something that will cover the needs for as long as it takes to be able to afford another, hence my own leaning towards black right now.

Four hours of sleep and my reading comprehension skills go out the window.

I wonder if it would be a nightmare to make. They're all horribly expensive online, it seems, from what I looked at to get an idea of what you were talking about, and I can't tell if the price more reflects complexity or what they know people will pay for a hard to find product.

It required tailoring skills which are much more significant a skillset than sewing skills. It's certainly beyond my capacity.

I can't read -- all this "sewing weekend" and I thought you were making it.

Transform all that making and trouble into money and shipping and UPS, then.

I don't know your daily wear wardrobe enough to be able to guess if you'd ever wear the blue for anything else, but either green or black seem more likely.

Black does go with everything. But you do tend towards the iconoclast, and thus the green seems awfully tempting.

Clearly, the right answer is "both, eventually, a green and a black".

I say green, but only if the pants are a candlelight or maybe oyster oe ecru, not straight-up white. Otherwise i think it would be a bit harsh on your skin and hair.

To be completely harsh and pragmatic, since you're having it made, black would probably be best, especially if it's the kind of thing you might wear to shoots. Story-heart still says green.

I went with green. Not just because it's my favorite color: it sets off well against dark hair and light skin. Also against brown and red hair, too.

I think that the dark green would give you a bit more glee. I also second someone else's comment that an off-white might be a better match for that.
